SP for me, can't be without a blend control personally. Also I like the fact it just has 3 settings on a toggle for "amount" of compression rather than knobs that I can fuck up and get confused about.

I'd grab a used Keeley Comp or Comp+. You can find them under $100. It's the gold standard of comp pedals as far as I'm concerned.

So i hear! Theres many different keeley compressors and ive heard in the past that the keeley 4 knob comp is THE ONE. But realistically are any Keeley comps good because id rather get a 2 knob for simplicity etc

If you're going to cut down on flexibility and adjustability, you should really try them out, especially with your rig if you can.

I do like my Xotic SP, but it is the only comp pedal I've ever used, so I can't say much by way of comparison with others. It makes my clean tone sound excellent, but here are the issues I do have with it:

-It's a little tiny pedal with great big controls and that don't have much resistance to turn. So you can accidentally knock these outta whack with your toes pretty easy, and especially the volume knob.

-Attack controls are dipsticks inside the chassis and I'm not really sure how to work them. Even after looking it up once. It's just not intuitive. That attack knob on the TC mini hypergravity looks awfully nice to me.

--------------

Dudeman at the top says that the "blend" control is essential... but isn't the "blend" control on the SP really just the same as the "sustain" control on the TC? Like I said, I really cannot speak for the sound whatsoever, but if the hypergravity sounds as good as the SP, I'd be pretty excited about that attack knob... then again, the SP has high cut and low cut dips inside the chassis along with those attack controls, and the TC doesn't seem to have any kind of high/low controls whatsoever. I actually do use the high cut dip on my SP compressor and it does make a big difference.

In conclusion: I dunno which one is better, but the Xotic SP is definitely not bad. You can also use it as a boost!

So i got the xotic. I have it as an always on pedal. Sounds great! My chords sound fuller as if it adds more odd/even harmonics or whatever. I didnt think i had bad technique before but tappin and sweep picking sound SO good and clear and even which is precisely why i got this, so mission accomplished!

The blend on the SP is not a "sustain" knob. It blends the wet and dry signals, anywhere in between from original signal to 100% effected. I think that's what makes it such a great little compressor, because being able to blend the dry signal in keeps things sounding a little more natural when needed
