I bought an SR505 in 2018. I started playing it a lot more after I joined a band and started filling in for some songs where the actual bassist couldn't play the song (my band situation isn't great...one is unreliable, one thinks you have to add distortion to everything, and another lacks the technical ability and does not want to get better...). I recently sold an RG3120 guitar and have put the SR505 up for sale. I bought this SR5005E on eBay. It arrived in basically mint condition, but a little dusty. It's like the previous owner never played it but had it as a display piece.

Likes:

- That wenge top looks amazing.
- Gold hardware. If this was a guitar, I wouldn't be so sure since I've seen RG Prestiges with grimy gold hardware, but this is OK since my hand does not rest on the bridge when I play bass.
- Excellent condition
- I will always be a fan of the Prestige case
- It plays like my SR505, which is great!

Dislikes:
- I am still trying to work out if I am missing the active EQ or not. At some point, Ibanez released the SR5005 which seems to be the SR5005E but an active EQ. My SR505 has the active EQ. So far, it seems to sound good without it. And to be honest, I can't even remember if I even used the EQ on my SR505.
- These plastic knobs are dreadful. An Ibanez Prestige should never have plastic knobs. I am currently ordering gold replacements...

Also, the previous owner gave me his strap and a Snark clip-on tuner.

Damn, that's a good NGD. I always lusted for those Prestige SRs, they've been in production for a long time now. Maybe one day.

There is one on eBay right now $750 before shipping (it’s an auction)!

Also, mods, I totally meant to put this in the bass subforum. Could someone please move this thread? @MaxOfMetal can you help out?

I have the middle ground, I guess Premium version of that, SR1805, higher end SRs play great. I still think that I prefer the 33-35" scale of my EHB--my Soundgear gets a little loose on the low B with just a .130 guage.

Congrats! The top is great on that and I agree on the knobs... Something to match the hardware will make it even better looking!

Fellow Ibanez fanboy. You for sure have an EQ on it, unless I am missing your meaning. The toggle is an EQ bypass so play with that and check the battery.

Yes, it has an EQ on it but it is a passive EQ, not an active one. The SR5005E (passive EQ) has no battery that I know of, but the SR5005 and SR505 (active EQ) have a battery compartment. I specifically say battery compartment because I haven't actually opened the cavity to find out if there is a battery there or not.

I would guess the battery on that is in the control cavity. Ibanez has made active basses like that for ages.

Passive eq controls are very rare, dare I say extremely rare, on production basses. Does it possibly have passive pickups with an active eq? That would be most likely as it's very common. Ibanez has done that for ages as well.

This is incorrect. There are no passive Ibanez SR prestige in the history of the world. That bass has a Power Curve III EQ.

Also its a SR5005 not an SR5005E. The E models have a different EQ with a mid toggle rather than the mid pot on yours. Its a super dope bass and you will likely enjoy it more with a fresh battery.

I will never stop loving SR basses. There's just something about them! Currently have two in my collection :)
