    Aristides Guitars

I just can’t figure out how people adjust the action by removing tension first. That’s gotta take all day. Unless there some sort of math that tells you how many turns is how many fractions of a mm, I’d how no idea how much to turn the screws without having to do trial and error. Which would...

    New Schecter Models Megathread

Most of these things are good, but in moderation or as a focal point. Like, are exotic woods bad? No. But if you use all of the available exotic woods (I’m looking at you, Kiesel customers) then it is bad. Or, at least I think so, lol

interesting pic on sweetwater? new secret jackson 14 string guitar

I was all ready to smash that “buy” button, too. Munky had that 14, and I’ve wanted one ever since!

How is Nolly playing this? (Make Total Destroy bass line)

Yeah, it just looked more like muting, but I guess it is just a matter of how loud you want the mute/slap to be.

    New Schecter Models Megathread

Schecter: making your low strings sound flubby since 2024. Regarding the weird string pull of these, and that abominable Warwick, is it not possible to just wind the string on the other side of the peg? I’ve seen this sort of thing before, and have wondered if that wouldn’t be a viable...

    New Schecter Models Megathread

Well, my Kramer Hot Dogger needed a drink to go with it, so looks like I’m buying this. Edit: Huh, the FB is maple. I thought it was rosewood. That’s some dark-ass roasting! But I prefer that over the rosewood.

    Tuner shootout for low notes

Yeah, I have a Turbo (at the suggestion of @MaxOfMetal years ago) and just a few minutes ago I tuned by bass with it, and it handled the F# (below the B of a 5 string) fine. I don't know about "quick" in comparison to the others, but I'm really happy with the performance.

New Friedman IR-D (Dirty Shirley) tube preamp pedal

I’ll be interested in hearing this vs the X. Curious if they’re much different. As soon as this was leaked people started speculating about a JEL variant. THAT will be the one I’ll buy.

    Strange/Ugly/useless/amusing guitar-themed novelties

I bad a Bugera one. It looked exactly like the Mesa one, but it broke soon after I got it. Ba dum tishhhhhh.

Quick luthiery/manteinance questions not deserving a thread

Yeah, I’ve read to pull the frets, plane it level, and then heat it with an iron to soften the glue. It SOUNDS way more daunting than taking down the top of the body. Maybe I’ll see if there’s a luthier around who could do it. That’s an issue in and of itself, because it seems everyone is a...

Quick luthiery/manteinance questions not deserving a thread

Based on this, and what @ElRay said, a router sled is going to be the cheapest option. At SOME point, I want to get into building, and do so in the cheapest, but best, way. (In other words, I'm not going to buy $20,000 worth of equipment just to make a handful of guitars, but at the same time...

Quick luthiery/manteinance questions not deserving a thread

If there’s a bit of a curve to the edge - think older Carvin style bodies, or Ibanez SR basses - is it still possible to adapt the veneer?

Quick luthiery/manteinance questions not deserving a thread

Is it possible to take a neck through guitar, plane/sand down the top, and affix a new top wood to it? I know it would be a lot more straightforward with a bolt-on, but I want to do it with a neck through. I'm imagining a router, or planer, or even some sort of band saw jig, but I'm not sure...

How is Nolly playing this? (Make Total Destroy bass line)

OK, I did some more googling around, and actually found this interview with Nolly, where he says, "In my tab, the dead notes across multiple strings denote a fretting hand slap, while the single dead notes on the low Ab are slaps while the string is being muted by the fretting hand." So I...
