Hi! Not much of a thick fingered, but one thing you said just nailed it: an old fart with kids and less and less time to deal with tech issues, when wider strings would do the job! I am kind of a partscaster and been looking for a bass neck to pull out the fretboard and convert into a baritone guitar with larger nut width. I'll post something about it some time later.
