  • I have had a brief hiatus wherein I purchased a few guitar books so i will soon resume posting on a regular basis. Daily if I can.
Well, the sixth edition has been out for a few years now, so I assume there will be a new edition in a year or so (textbooks tend to be revised every four years).
I'm afraid you'll have to suck it up and buy it. My suggestion is to wait until the seventh edition comes out and snatch up a used sixth edition.
I learned theory in community college, believe it or not. Hell, I'm still learning.

I've found that writings on music theory online are, at worst, incomprehensible and incorrect, or at best, correct but lacking depth. If you want some sort of music theory reference, your only option is to pick up a few textbooks. My favorite is Kostka/Payne's Tonal Harmony, as that's the book that I learned out of. It goes a good way into chromaticism, and it teaches case-sensitive chord symbols (I ii iii IV V vi vii°, or i ii° III IV V VI vii° in minor, as opposed to I II III IV V VI VII [both major and minor keys] that authors like Walter Piston seem to favor).

That's the basic stuff, but Kostka/Payne is by no means a complete reference. I don't think a big book of Western music theory exists. It's pretty much up to the musician to take the knowledge they've accumulated and formulate their own music based on their subjective ability to follow and discard the rules in their own way.
just type the word code in square brackets, then your tab, then /code in square brackets.

If it doesn't work then try quoting a post that has it and seeing how it works.
Anyone know how to sift through the mega loads of lessons on this site to find a real gem without having to read forty billion different lessons before finding what you want?
Hey. I waz looking at some songs for church, and when I looked at the chords, I got confused. They had just a plain D chord. Would that be major, minor, or somthing else?
Dudes! Posted one lesson, another coming up this afternoon. You should check it out. That means you adrian, you long legged SOB! HaHa. Also, I see I have alot of people who have complained about my comment on the dusk tiger. I think it is a great guitar, and just because people don't like gibson, does'nt mean you have to trash their guitar on the basis of they made it. It shows great progression towards modern guitars, and while it may look kinda cheesy and hasn't progressed much since their last hi tech guitar, it is still progress for the company, so back of. I still think it looks sick. Later!
Yeah, but it would still be a really cool project to do. And i think this is info that a lot of people would be really interested in.
cuz you would be better off looking for a site that tells you how to convert songs done in a seven string into a six strings or we both could just get jobs and finally buy sevens
Got a question for people viewing this. I am working on a math kinda thing for seven and six string guitars. You know how on a six string in standard tuning, if u hold down on fret five on string six it will sound the same as string five open? fret five string 5 same as string four open. What are the equivelants for a seven string? I am working on a possible way to convert songs played on a seven string guitar to a six string and this info would really help.
