I still enjoy getting guitars and I am due another fun one later this year, and I literally just got 2 new guitars this year already. I am also shuffling out old guitars and play in a few bands that require different tunings. The thing I realised with playing in bands, and especially with flying...
I just picked up an Ibanez RG2027XL (27" 7 string) to replace my LTD SC-608B (27" 8 string). The NGDs are here:
1. Ibanez RG2027XL
2. LTD SC-608B
Maybe not the fairest of comparisons, but they are both nice guitars and serve the same purpose to me. There are too many variables to make a like...
Stock pickups are DiMarzio Fusion Edge pickups. They're fine. Not bad, not amazing. I've not had a chance to run it through my rig, but between the Quad Cortext, 5150 III and the cab, it'll sound good enough.
It's a classic Ibanez neck heel before the All Access Neck Joint. I thought it was just a regular block neck joint but looking online, it was called the Tilt Joint? TMYK.
Ah yeah, I called them up and I was told just pick scratches and minor things. However, it does a few chips at the bottom of the body and a dent under the strings, between the pickups. I've been meaning to call them about that!
Been rejigging my guitars for the bands I'm in, and got some classics in. Sold a bunch to afford these new guitars.

1. Reiver Kompact - Nice Scottish headless 6 string, but it wasn't for me and I felt someone else could love it.
2. Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 Shell Pink - Was planning on using...
Hah, that's totally fair. I don't think I'm the right audience anyway - it's mostly nostalgia at this point. I do like TGE - that's a shred fest that I'm into.
I'm more into artists pushing their own art and changing it up instead of harkening back to past efforts and styles. If it is what...
I really liked Loomis' playing when I was younger, but as I get older, it's a bit dimensional uber shred and power metal laden riffing that I find a bit dull. Even Conquering Dystopia is too straight forward in my opinion.
It's never going to happen, but if you put Loomis in with weird /...
I honestly think just using a Line 6 HX Stomp with amp sims (head and cab), give the sound guy a 1/4" jack and you can monitor with headphones or whatever. You could use it as your end game (as in, run your regular pedal board into the HX stomp) and pretend the HX stomp is your backline. The HX...
I was quoted around £4000 for a Super J 5 with a 2.5 year wait. It would have been amazing, but a lot of money and time. Much looking forward to these.
I think they're all fine. You won't go really wrong with either choice. People might kill me for this but pedals and amps really matter for bass metal tone. The actual bass does influence the sound, but once you start using a Sansamp or a Darkglass, the pedal will get you 90% the way there. YMMV...
I saw this - wasn't sure the difference between this and the old one other than the FR. I didn't really take time to check though.
It's more expensive than the floyd version! Ah well.
I'm interested. I've got 2 ABZ6s and they have held up for 10+ years. I would like something a bit more trad, but has the quality that I am used to. Granted, these are "production" level basses, but the Combustions I've tried out are real nice too!
