    Jackson SLAT3-7 vs J-Custom ?

Update: I found a killer deal on an older 1527 in Cosmic Blue that I couldn't pass up. I know it's not a J-Custom, but it will still have the familiar Ibanez feel that I like. (And I won't be completely broke, LOL.) I'm planning on dropping in some active pu's and the routes are passive, so...

    Jackson SLAT3-7 vs J-Custom ?

Good points all around. J-Custom is a better investment and I'm already familiar with the way they play and sound. It's just hard to come up with the premium they command. @guitarplayerone: I have the RG7CT (7-string). Basically the same as your J-Custom, assuming yours is a 7. So, yea...

    Jackson SLAT3-7 vs J-Custom ?

How does the alder body Jackson SLAT3-7 sound compared to a mahogany body J-Custom / Prestige? I'm gassing for a new seven and the Jackson looks killer (except for the ginormous headstock ). However, I'm worried that the tone will be too bright for me. I currently play a Prestige RG7CT...

    Backup guitar for an RG7CT?

Thanks guys. I have given heavy consideration to a 2027, but I would have to sell one my sixes and/or other gear to afford it. That and I'd like to have something less expensive that I can bang around and not care (as much) about. As far as other brands go, I have an MH-307 w/ 707's that's...

    Backup guitar for an RG7CT?

Looking for another 7 to relieve my RG7CT for practice / rehearsal. Which is closer to the RG7CT (neck dimensions, etc.), a 7620 or 1527? Or are they all about the same? I know we're talking basswood instead of mahogany, but I'm hoping that active pickups (EMG or Blackouts) will help with...

ESP LTD MH-307 vs Agile Interceptor Pro 25

How does the Agile Interceptor Pro 25 compare to an LTD MH-307? I have an old MH-307 w/ EMG 707's and I love the heavy sound, but it has some playability issues and needs some repairs (refret, truss rod, etc.). Instead of dropping more $ to fix the MH-307, I was thinking about picking up...

    Success! (Blackout 7s Arrived)

Contemplating putting a set of these passive Blackout 7's in my RG7CT but I'm worried they won't fit the shallow direct mount routes. Can anyone tell me the thickness (front to back) of these? How about from front to bottom of tabs? Thanks!

SD Custom 7 & Jazz 7 = harsh highs in mahogany Ibanez 7

So what's a good alternative to the V30's? Eminence Guvernors? I have a spare Marshall 2x12 cab I can use for testing speakers. (The V30's are in my 4x12.)

SD Custom 7 & Jazz 7 = harsh highs in mahogany Ibanez 7

Well I guess I'm just used to EMG's and Dimarzio's being up on the strings. Once I lowered the Duncans the gain came back and the sound was a lot better. They still have more treble than the EVO7 and AN7, but the midrange bite and Duncan tone make up for it. Lowering the pickups also fixed...

SD Custom 7 & Jazz 7 = harsh highs in mahogany Ibanez 7

You guys rock with the quick responses. Thanks. I lowered the Custom and raised the pole under the low B to compensate for a shim. I also adjusted my preamp EQ. That seemed to tightened things up. Both pickups are definitely wired correctly. The split coil modes sound thin like they...

SD Custom 7 & Jazz 7 = harsh highs in mahogany Ibanez 7

I just installed a SD Custom and Jazz set in my Ibanez RG7CT (mahogany w/ flame maple cap) and the highs are ice pick harsh on both pickups. I've already pulled the treble bleed cap from the volume pot. Both vol and tone pots are 500K. Is there anything I can do to tame the highs? Pickup...

    WTB: Silverburst Les Paul Custom

I just sold my silverburst on ebay a couple of weeks ago. I'll probably regret selling it, but it didn't play like I wanted, even after a refret. That guitar sounded sooo good though... man I want another custom! :wallbash:

    Pickups for RG7CT

Just wanted to follow-up... I went with the DiMarzio EVO7 bridge and AN7 neck. Installation: I had to take a Dremel to the ears to get them to fit. Also, the pickup cavities are (just barely) too shallow so I'll have to get them routed at some point. The AN7 is OK but the EVO7 is too...
