I picked up an Origin 20 on Craigslist and the cab and an SM57 at Music Go Round. (speaking of MGR for those in Minnesota: I had no idea the Burnsville store closed)

It sounded gnarly with a maxed out Boss OS2 using an SG. It got pretty doomy and sludgy. It has a lot of clarity for cleans with no effects or my DD5 and HOF mini. The internal boost feels like it adds a bit of depth to the sound at lower volumes.

I spent the most time last night with an AxeFx 2XL+ into the FX return. The response feels so much better than just the Axe with headphones (shocking right lol), which is what most of my play time is. I can't wait to record with it!

Nice! Iirg Reverb listed the origin line as plexi tone on a budget.

That's what I've read, as well as what the older guy selling it had to say. It does sound great on its own for cleans but I'm thinking I don't have anything hot enough pickup wise to drive it without a pedal. Even my RGA8 with Blackouts didn't drive it much.

That said, I like how it sounds with the AxeFx into the fx return. I finally have some time to play around with micing it now!

@budda that's the plan once I get some isolation sorted out. Then we'll see how much I want to delve into od/distortion/fuzz pedals lol

@wheresthefbomb it's just a baby! I thought I'd end up with a smaller cab but this works nicely... I'll work my way up to 8x12 Sludge Lord.

Boost into big muff is a good time. SD1/ehx triangle fuzz gets it done without bucks.

if you have a RAT, try boosting your fuzz with that, too. RAT>Fuzz is the goods. If you don't have a RAT, now is the time to get one!

@budda the rat clone I have has a vintage and turbo switch, I forget where I have it set though. Probably turbo. It has a nice heft to it when I use it with overdriven amp models compared to the typical low end roll off of overdrives.

Looks like a fun little thing! I bet it's loud as hell.

I really enjoy playing digital stuff through my HS7 monitors which sounds amazing, but nothing beats the tube amps when it comes to feeling the sound to the finger points - even before it reaches your ears. That dynamic feeling is hard to model.

The Origin, a 250, and a Strat will have you in Yngwie territory.

Looks killer!

Easy to forget how different in sound and feel a tube amp is when using digital stuff all the time. Tubes are loads of fun!
Thanks! The digital stuff is nice but I agree this is more fun And like @BabUShka said, how it feels is great.

@ArtDecade do I have to shit on other musicians and berate people in airplanes to get the tone? Or will all of that happen once I plug in the strat and a 250?

How’s the master volume on those? Tameable or zero to hero by only breathing on the knob 😀

NAD is a happy day indeed!

The 250 and the Strat will get you the tone. The shitting on people and starting fights in planes requires donuts crumbs on your pirate shirt.

For clean tones or using something in the fx loop like I've been doing with the AxeFx it's very usable and controllable.

I still have to give it a rip plugging straight in and cranking the master!
