  • Hi there,
I 'm planning to dye the neck (and possibly the body) of my M80M and I'm torn between Fiebing's and Angelus leather dye. I noticed you were commenting on the later, so... did you use both and thus can you compare the two?
    Cheers!
hey there! Saw you are a big fan of Elysian pickups and actually have a set, can I ask you if you have any experience with the Duncan Custom?

yeah I've used the custom and custom 5 extensively. Elysians in general are quite mid forward/snarlier in the midrange, more modern sounding, with a quite tight/responsive low end and a lot of high end on tap. They're very clear for the amount of output they have and split sounds are great. The Trident I and II sets are good for pretty much anything from blues/jazz to doom/techdeath/djent/whatever.

The Custom/Custom 5 are comparatively scooped sounding. They have more low end and high end than they do mids. It's not a huge scoop, but it's enough of one to give the pickups a big tight sound when they're pushed hard. Cleans are quite good and the low end stays pretty tight/responsive for how big the low end feels. They're excellent pickups for blues/rock/thrash/death metal .

Thank you! So it seems that the Elysian Tridents have a bump in the mids whereas the Custom is more of a midscooped PU, funny how that works! I'm looking for low end and that cold scooped tone the custom has seems to fit the bill.
Also, I've already got a Crunchlab laying around, how would it work/sound in my new HSS Strat (alder body)?

You should be fine, the crunchlab is a relatively chunky/thick sounding pickup and does fine in brighter guitars. I'm pretty sure most of the EBMM JP line are either basswood or alder bodies.

Dude, have you done any single coils testing with the insane amount of pickups you've tested?

so far I've only tried the stock pickups in my tele and a Dirty Harry bridge from Rio Grande. Once I'm satisfied with my other shootouts I might start up a single coil shootout.
