From the perspective of a somewhat sloppy player, the baritone 6 tends to give me better results with palm muting and open string riffs, because the higher strings don't seem to require quite as much attention to keep them from accidentally ringing out. I'm sure a better player wouldn't be...
And on the other side of the spectrum, TDPRI finds him an odd choice for the exact opposite reasons :D I suspect it's like the Oscars or Grammys, where you get an award mainly because you did something important 10-20 years ago that they ignored in favor of the flavor of the week.
A lot to work with here, thanks so much. I'm trying to wrap my head around the idea that a longer scale improves the harmonicity of higher strings more "quickly" -- in other words, a 27" scale is closer to ideal for the 1st string than it is for the lowest string. Which would imply that, if...
I see the point. If we only used one kind of string, it would be much more easily tested. But on the other hand, we're using all of these different strings on basically only three or four scale lengths, and there's a rough consensus that some combinations work better than others for a majority...
Fair enough, but it's acceptable to exclude variables when testing for the effect of specific other variables :D Obviously no given gauge string is going to perform well unless it's within a fairly narrow range of pitch and the necessary tension to achieve that pitch. So it stands to reason...
Absolutely, after a LOT of trial and error, I finally got a "perfect" custom Stringjoy set for each guitar. I'm now looking at it from the other end -- how to build or find a guitar that's closer to ideal already, hopefully cutting down the trial and error time at least a little.
Has anyone done a serious study of tension, string gauge and scale length? I know just enough of the physics to understand that sustain increases with tension to a point, and then decreases after that. So there must be a fairly small range of variables at which any given string gauge tuned to a...
I kinda feel like out of 30 years of playing guitar, I've spent at least 5-10 years trying to get them to sound right, trying to get a good sound recorded, or trying to get sounds to sit right in a band mix. Really wish I'd had modern sims and that 5-10 years back to actually practice and...
Agreed. When I see a product with prominent branding, I automatically start to wonder if that's the only thing that distinguishes them from the competition. Then again, it's not necessarily because I'm against advertising other people's brand. I wear band t-shirts all the time. But it's not...
I love the look of the black open pore artist, but the Evertune spoils it for me. I appreciate what it does, I just find it too big and blocky, and I'm not a fan of prominent logos on hardware. Kinda wish they'd develop a more streamlined version, but I don't know if that's even possible.
I also like the look of a nice neck-thru, which is totally a subjective taste thing. There's been a lot of guitars that I've wished looked as good in front as they do from the back.
I'm pretty happy with my Mooer 005. With the built in cab sim on, it's pretty realistic into a PA or interface. Into a power amp/ loop return and cab it's a little dark but the tight heavy sound is outstanding. With an outboard power amp/cab sim it's amazingly versatile. And for cleans, I...
I couldn't find a set that really worked for me across the board, ended up getting a Stringjoy custom set with 64 on the bottom and a wound 3rd. Sound-wise it's good but nothing special, but the feel is much closer to what I like. I'm amazed that anyone can get good results out of less than 60+...
Has anybody got their hands on one of the sandblasted SE Customs yet? I always really liked that look on the Mayones. I'd jump on it if I was more sure that the guitar quality was worth the price, especially with the extra hit for shipping from Europe to the US.
Yeah, I hate to sound old fashioned but companies with an outdated website and social media-only runs seem like a danger sign. GoC seems to be following the Ormsby model... I'll give them props for a fast full refund anyway.
