EZ Drummer 2 & Super Drummer 3: questions for users

I have no experience with Superior Drummer, but EZ Drummer and Reaper are a great match. Seriously, with no DAW experience you can launch Reaper, tap in the tempo, drag and drop some groove variations and you have a quality sounding track in minutes. You can spend as much or as little time as...

NGD: I post a lot of these...

I'm getting the Foxbats as well. The company could definitely use some more clips, there aren't even enough crappy YouTube user reviews. But what's out there, plus word of mouth, is enough to go on for now. In a few years we'll be happy that we got em before the prices went up.

    pickup for alder bodied guitar

I've got the Black Winters in a poplar body guitar and I'm really happy with them - but - they don't sound to me like what you're looking for. They've got amazing cleans, and with gain they have a sizzling high mid peak that sits great in the mix with a bass... but the note separation is a...

    Oh yeah, I'm here

Forgot to introduce myself before starting another thread, sorry... Been playing guitar about 25 years, picked up a 7-string a few years back and loved it. Next stop is a multiscale 7, probably either an Agile for modding or an Ormsby. Got a bass and a few 6 strings too, have some experience...

    Standard Strat for modern metal?

Absolutely. There's plenty of good examples and options for metal from a Strat. I used one of the original red Lace Sensors in the bridge for many years, it got me almost all the high gain sounds I needed. Since then, a lot of even better single-sized pickups have come out for a drop-in...

    Favourite Fretboards?

    1. Ziricote. I bought this one for looks alone and have zero regrets, plays fast and slick with stainless frets. 2. Wenge. I love that it looks all gnarly and rough but plays like polished glass. Smells good when you drill it, too. 3. I'll take ebony before maple or rosewood 4. Always wanted...

    Standard Strat for modern metal?

Good tip on the tubing! Got a Callaham V/N on another guitar. It's outstanding.

    This one is pretty in-depth:

    Standard Strat for modern metal?

Cold solder joints caused me endless problems when I was getting started. Tone issues, mystery buzz, etc... It's pretty frustrating with top pickguard guitars to restring and button everything up only to have to take it all apart again. Then again, semi hollows are annoying too... fishing...

    Standard Strat for modern metal?

All good points. Some things work well together on paper but not IRL, some things work so well that they've been done to death, and some totally unexpected combinations end up being exactly right. I've got a semi-hollow with low output toasters that gets great EVH and black metal sounds :) I...

    Standard Strat for modern metal?

Not at all, my favorite 6-string for metal is my Schecter with EMGs. I'm really bad about forgetting to pull the cord out when I'm done playing though, so I burn through 9v batteries :D The Warpigs sound great, very thick. I've thought about going with p90s for a while, Thorn has a staple-top...

    Standard Strat for modern metal?

So far I've been testing darker pickups with the thought that too much high end would turn harsh. I was looking at Nailbombs but harshness hat been an issue for some people.... Foxbats seem like a definite possibility... or possibly a dimarzio set, Titans or maybe Sonic Ecstasys. Pretty wide...

    Standard Strat for modern metal?

I've heard the theory that the wood doesn't matter, not sure that I believe it but even without a wood difference, there's a lot more "rattle" from the pickguard mount and trem springs. Definitely adds a zing to some pickups, a tiny bit of metallic echo. Could be a benefit for a duller pickup I...

    Standard Strat for modern metal?

I've got a Fender Strat that isn't getting much play, so I've basically been using it as a test guitar for pickups. Problem is, it has a lot of things that make it very different from the guitars that the pickups would end up in - pickguard mount, vintage tremolo bridge, classic rounded neck...

    Question coil-tapping certain pickups

I'm planning on splitting my Black Winter 7s as well, curious how this turns out. The neck & middle positions already have such a great clean tone, but they're pretty hot for most amps. Splitting should help that, but I'm also concerned about hum and shrillness.

Decent 7 string guitars that aren't too expensive?

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Agile yet? Good prices for mahogany 7-strings...

NGD: I post a lot of these...

Outstanding guitar. There's a lot of interesting and creative finishes out there, but I'm still always drawn to black or red... or if I'm feeling crazy, red and black :D

    Microphonic or just very sensitive?

That's probably it. What I should do is get another guitar with equally high output pickups to compare the two on the same rig. It's as good a reason as any to get a new guitar...

    Microphonic or just very sensitive?

Nope, it's actually a pretty quiet guitar other than the extreme sensitivity. That's why I didn't think I messed up the install, no ground loops or buzzing.

    Microphonic or just very sensitive?

First post here, sorry if it's been covered before. I swear I searched for it! I got a Jackson JS22-7 a few years back to test out the 7-string thing before spending a lot of cash, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the guitar. But the stock humbuckers were a little blah so I put...
