The original 5150's were definitely a lot "meaner" sounding than the 5150ii's which also tend to be quite a bit muddier. The 6505's are very cool and the clean channel is definitely improved, but when you are using it for high gain stuff the 5150 is still a little bit more aggressive.
I would go with the Carvin V3 or the 6505 combo. I've played the Bugera's quite a few times and they always came off as a decent enough 5150 clone, but the tone was never quite all the way "there" if you know what I mean. I work at Guitar Center and played with a 6505 combo for a while the...
Fairly common problem with Boss adapters. They either crap out or if they do work they add a lot of noise. I use a Visual Sound 1 Spot. Check them out. They're very cool, super easy to expand, pretty inexpensive, and very quiet.
