I put 6L6s and KT77s in my JSX (along with JJ 12AX7s in the preamp). I preferred the 6L6s over the KT77s and feel that they darken the tone to an extent. But I also think that it was somewhat subtle. The amp has a very bright voicing. I think the tubes will make a difference, but it might not be...
If there is a difference it's definitely not noticeable in my opinion. I think you'd be better off going with the Wizard, which has the flattest and thinnest profile. And since I forgot to mention it in my first post, I would highly recommend stainless steel frets.
I have three Warmoths including two I NGD'd on here: http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/standard-guitars/230517-n-sorta-gd-warmoth.html http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/standard-guitars/265588-ngd-warmoth-h-h-tele.html Can't get enough of them and hope to build another one soon. I've played...
The Charvels were formerly made in Japan, they're now made in Mexico. Hence the price difference. The MIJ Charvels were good quality, I haven't tried the Mexico ones though. Definitely gotta say American Fenders played and sounded great too.
Something else you may want to consider Blitz, is a load box that will let you silence your Tremoverb for those days you can't blow the house down. Ie the Two Notes Torpedo Live (way expensive at $995, but it does have a lot of options and good reviews) or something like that Mesa Cab Clone...
AKG D5, a vocal mic. I had another mic I would have used but it's out of commission for now. I've played with bands before and the JSX sounded phenomenal in the mix; it cut very well. Unless of course you mean a recorded mix, where I'd point you to a couple of the Ryan Bruce(Fluff) videos on...
Did not, previously had the SD SH5, SH6, and a Bareknuckle Coldsweat. The Slug had the best sound for that tuning by far, at least for what I wanted to play.
You guys asked for them, so here ya go, some more rudimentary clips (done very quickly with no EQ changes or compression this time around). Both with the Slug (in a Warmoth Hardtail Strat http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/standard-guitars/230517-n-sorta-gd-warmoth.html), one with the Orthos and...
I just put this in my hardtail strat yesterday. Definitely loud. It seems pretty clear and tight to me. A good deal of compression, but in a good, passive way. Id say it's similar to the Warpig, but there are definitely differences. I wouldn't necessarily associate the sound with...
Here ya go MAJ. Some rudimentary and short clips. No eq but some slight compression after I recorded them. Signal was Warmoth Strat (E standard tuning, canary neck with ziricote board and alder body) with a Seymour Distortion (TB6) in the bridge straight into the amp with a Mesa 2x12 cab (V30s)...
Aww but cell phone videos are always so terrible! Maybe in a couple of months, but my money went to the Orthos this year. If I can get my mic functioniong we might get lucky. I'm running 6L6s which Kyle uses as the default tubes AFAIK. I hope to try KT88s or KT66s one day but the 6l6s are more...
Unfortunately my mic is out of commission and I have no idea when I'm gonna get a new one. The Orthos has the same gain channel as the Colossus but with fewer voicing switches though. Taken from the website: "The Orthos™ Lead channel is based on our signature high-gain sound that aims to...
The cleans are good. Of the amps I have owned this one is the best and most versatile. Not as good as Fender cleans but it definitely has the right sound for what I want, in addition to having a gain pot to raise or lower the amount of breakup you're looking for. I enjoy the gain channel way...
I've actually had this for about a month now, but wanted to go through the motions before posting an NAD. I'll try to keep my opinion short. The only tube amps I've owned prior to this are the Peavey JSX, Mesa RectoVerb 50 watt combo, Krank Rev, and the Mesa Rectoverb 25. Of my previous amps...
C Standard hands down. High on Fire, Sleep, Hatebreed, Nails, The Sword, Black Dahlia Murder, Ken Mode, early In Flames, Disfear, Coalesce, and others all inspired me to go for this tuning. E flat is a close second.
