    Comments from non-guitarists about guitars

My Aristides garners attention from time to time. People really like the color. If they're curious enough I tell them about how it's injection molded out of a special material, which never sounds as interesting out loud as it does in my head. People seem to presume the little contours on the...

The softest, smoothest strap you know of

For the majority of my time playing guitar I have sworn by these D'Addario Auto Lock straps that no one seems to have heard of. They clip directly onto your strap button, eliminating the need for a strap lock. But the reason I keep buying them is not because of the locking mechanism, which is a...

    Looking for a baritone guitar

You may want to play around with Stringjoy's tension calculator to figure out what scale length is required for the tension you want given your set of strings.

Has anyone recorded a metal song or album without bass?

I tried this with my 8-string when I didn't have my bass guitar on hand. I tried my best to dial in some low end and process it like a bass. It sounded awful. Horribly thin and weak. An 8-string guitar in drop E is not a replacement for a bass in standard.

    Help Choosing First 8 String

I'll throw my vote in for the RG8 since I don't feel the RG80F has any features that are worth the extra cost and I dislike the way Ibanez does multiscale guitars. The issue is they put the straight fret way too high (like at the 12th fret) which makes the fan on the lower frets too extreme...

What guitar pick do you use?

Those Carbon Fiber Jazz IIIs are the greatest pick I have ever used. I've gone through a lot of picks and regularly buy more but nothing ever surpasses the playability of those little fuckers. Close runners up are the Ernie Ball Prodigy Mini and the Winspear Mini Shiv.

Reverb increasing their selling fee (3.5% to 5%)

Ordacleaphobia, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this change benefits music stores much either. I actually agree with every single one of your points, from a consumer point of view (though perhaps not from a seller one). I'm just saying that's the angle the email tries to take

Reverb increasing their selling fee (3.5% to 5%)

I'm as disappointed as anyone else, but I think y'all are missing the point. Look at the wording they used in the email. "Your business", "your sales". It's a really business-centric message. As for the supposed benefits: SEO? Digital marketing, really? Those are the sorts of things that are...

This is too good to be true, but its oooooh so tempting

Seems like one of those shady Chinese sites that pops up every now and then and promptly disappears again. A quick Google search reveals very little. If they were a legitimate business, I'd hope to be able to find some more information about them. Let us know how it goes, but personally, I'm...

Harley Benton Amaroks! - New Chapman esque range!

Do it! I'm in the US so unfortunately I don't imagine a return would be worth it in my case, if even possible. I doubt I'll ever get to try one out in person, either.

Harley Benton Amaroks! - New Chapman esque range!

That's my concern as well. The Fusion IIs were cheap enough that buying one wouldn't be much of a risk. These are a significant step up in price. That said, there happens to be a B-stock Amarok on Thomann right now in the color I want...

Harley Benton Amaroks! - New Chapman esque range!

I'd like to know what the neck is like on these. Harley Benton says "slim modern C" but also says it's 21mm at the first fret and 23mm at the twelfth, which doesn't seem particularly thin to me.
