I don't really care if it's mainstream or not. You're talking to a guy who likes pretty much everything on the radio  Owl City is not quite what I'm after though. I wrote the OP late last night and now realised that I should probably have mentioned that I'm looking for electronic stuff with...
...this. It has kind of a 'live' feel to it and an awesome groove with fun, upbeat melodies. I don't know how much you guys here at ss.org know this kind of stuff, but I guess it's worth a shot. Edit: Preferably it should have clear funk/soul elements.
I don't like Skrillex or dubstep in particular, but Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites (the song) has like the best theme ever. Super simple, but what a hook.
Man, nitrocellulose is the bomb, I wish they still used it on guitars. It's very uncommon these days. Cellulose ages incredibly well compared to poly. You get a beautiful crackle instead of just chipped paint.
They're not gonna sound as fat as the Yamaha, but Squier's VM and CV line is extremely good bang for your buck. Personally I would go Squier, because they're more versatile.
It's more than possible, it just depends on what sound you're after. It's going to be looser and more clicky when tuning down to A with a string gauge stuitable for C, but it's definitely doable. From your tag I guess you're a Dingwall player, so I see where you're coming from, having the...
I'm not a cheap person when it comes to small things, I can throw tiny amounts of money away multiple times without hesitation. But as soon as it comes to anything above about $150 I get cheap as hell, so I almost never buy gear. The most expensive piece of gear I've bought is my upright bass...
I don't know how it's like where you live, but if I had enough spare cash to do it I'd probably buy and renovate it into living space to sell/rent. Here you could probably make bank making them into student housing, because there are almost no places to live right now if you can't afford a $200k...
If you're going to solely focus on a genre/project then there's no need to be well rounded. But if you want to have a bigger chance of making music a living you should definitely focus on learning at least the basics of the common genres. You'll be infinitely more attractive to anyone looking...
When I first saw the title, I thought we were going to see an actual '59 strat, my mind was blown away for a second  Awesome piece nonetheless, you can never go wrong with a strat.
