Srsly, man, get on it. I'm in a very similar situation with a drummer friend; we just get together every so often and make shit up. He's in a dedicated band that he loves, so I can't steal him as often as I might like - especially now that my main band has just sort of evaporated - but if you...
I've been thinking about downgrading amps myself; my Fender Champ 25 is a little big to be carting around all the time and the volume never gets up over 2 because I have neighbors upstairs. I had a feeling I'd kick myself if I ditched it, got a littler amp, and suddenly had a band to play in and...
I've got a guitar in drop-D with .012-.056 strings and I'm usually able to bend full steps, but I have to bend hard. I do have a floating trem, though, which will make that easier.
I don't know that I could part with any of my guitars, at this point, but the worst would be my JEM 77FBP. I barely even play the thing, but I just couldn't bear to let her go.
Door #3: 30th birthday. (I do have an Agile on the way, too, but that one is much more exciting.) We'll see about an Axe-FX some day. Hopefully soon. As to babies...uh, no. Not ever. At all.
Don't talk shit about pink guitars! I'm getting that sparkly pink Explorer knock-off from Rondo one of these days because it's the most metal guitar EVARRRRR. (Also, DR hot pink strings for maximum ludicrousness.) Tell me about it. I used to have my 25.5" in drop B and even with ridiculous...
Cool. Thanks! I've been thinking I should go to (at least) .074 based on what I'm reading so far; even at 28.625", most people say it's a little loose for the low E. (The tension on my 25.5" RG [.059, tuned down to C] is perfect.) I wonder if Kurt will throw a .074 or .076 on for me instead of...
That's more or less what I thought. Does change in scale really effect tension quite that much? All my guitars have had 25.5" scales; the only thing I've played with a longer scale is a bass.
Ever tried playing power chords on a bass? They tend not to sound great. The guys from Meshuggah have said that they've had to learn how to use the low strings even on their eight-strings because power chords just don't work that low. You can certainly do it; I'm just not sure it'll sound like...
I'm coming up to an eight-string from a six, which is currently tuned to drop C with a set of seven-string strings sans the high E (.013-.059). I've always played on very heavy strings - I replaced the .009-.042 set on my first guitar with a .013-.056 set the first time I changed strings - and I...
