I would lik eto replace the stock pickups in my schecter omen-7 basswood guitar, but need a few suggestions. I like stoner stuff, especially the more upbeat like kyuss, the sword, even pelican. Not really the electric wizard doom style, although something that can handle that too would be a...
I'm in more or less the same boat... been playing the same cover songs for 15 years and am only now starting to really take a look at what I'm doing and improve as a guitarist. Have you tried recording yourself playing along with some drums? You'll quickly hear all kinds of issues when you...
I hate vocals. 90% of the time its just some clown going urrrrgh, urrrrrgh, me badass, urrrgh. ....ing stupid. Done right they can be ok in small amounts, but that is rare.
Another thing with slow practice, you are learning to play of course but you are also learning to hear in more and more detail. Tiny finger noises, ringing strings, etc
Here is an interesting test. From scratch, ie, NOW, start a timer running and see how long it takes until you are able to record a riff into your DAW (either clean with reamping, or just a good tone). If you have to faff about with booting machines, wiring up stuff, moving mics, chanrging...
Another interesting thing to note here.. XxxXxxXx sounds like a group of 3, a group of 3 and a group of two, like this: Xxx Xxx Xx But playing that along with a straight drum beat is tricky. If you think of it as XxxX xxXx you'll keep in time with the drums a lot easier. Of course, it should...
I mean lift your picking hand off the strings, so the accented note is not palm muted, but the rest are. Accenting just means making the note stand out. You could also play a power chord for the accent, and return to a muted Em for the unaccented chugs. Or for the sake of it, play nothing...
If you want to work on chug patterns the following might help. It's an adaptation of some drum practice stuff, ask your drummer about 'stick control' book and rudiment patterns for more.. Take 8th notes, and start accenting the first, and palm muting the rest. I'll notate this as: X x x x x x x...
I watched the whole Michael Jackson funeral concert just waiting for the casket to open, and for him to hop out and start singing Thriller. What a comeback! They really missed an opportunity there.
I'm really liking Intervals, especially the verse parts. The lead/chorus mor melodic parts are a bit over the top tho. Any more of that syncopated type of stuff?
I've been listening to a little Scale the Summit recently, and it's not bad. A bit too many notes and chord changes and melody for my tastes, but not too bad :) If it was just a little darker and restrained, harmonically.. will check out Intervals, thanks for the tip.
I'm looking for some recommendations for instrumental metal. I like some downtuned, chuggy, sludgy groovy stuff, with some good riffs. I am not a big fan of progressive, shred, or anything with too many notes and super fast playing. Blast beats with a little clicky kick that goes...
I'll throw in a few electronic tunes. Kryptic Mindz : heavy and oppressive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ENNbC_UmEM Photek: There's more to percussion than blast beats and double bass https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eaqxo1R7raA
