Playing "out of your comfort zone" music

Plus one on the Metheny books, with a caveat: the Real Book is, like others, just a collection of lead sheets in standard notation only, i.e. melody with chord notation, with limited guitar/piano transcriptions, zero solos and zero tab. As such, it is only really useful if you want to make your...

Playing "out of your comfort zone" music

If you want a real workout, try any of Allan Holdsworth's transcriptions. Some of the early solos of Meshuggah are very heavily influenced by Holdsworth.

Playing "out of your comfort zone" music

You could do worse than start with scores of Mike Stern's music. I've got a few and they are defintely very different from your current repetoire, yet Mike started out playing rock and blues, which will give you an in to understanding where he takes things. The scores are pretty accurate too...

Actually, the first thing I'm doing is asking for real-world experiences. I'm not even gonna touch my wallet until I've polled for the experience of others. 🙂

Fan fret guitars and New Standard Tuning

Exactly. Indeed I believe multiscale opens up tbe possibility of fifths tun8ng to 7, 8 and 9 string guitars, with an incredible range. Plus it removes the need for the compromise in Fripp's original NST, which necessitated the final string being only a third above the penultimate string. With...

    The Pink Guitar Thread

You ALWAYS have to look for the stuff that's unfashionable yet very well made. After all, back in 1984, I scored an original Ibanez Artist guitar (solid ash body, carved top with chamfered edge, abalone inlayed fretboard and binding, gold hardware) for a paltry £220 cos everyone else was after...

Is spaghetti better with or without meatballs?

Having only just twigged that p0ke was talking very literally about bringing plain pasta (who in their most twisted moments would do that?) I suggest you suggest a suitable vegetarian option as soon as possible!

I also note that Napoleon didn't use tanks either, but I'm sure he would have, if available, as they would have solved some of his problems. 🙂 Seriously, Fripp is probably not inclined to change now and most of his students have moved onto tap instruments like the Warr and Stick. But fan frets...

I see there is healthy interest on these boards for NST, but I have yet to find anything on applying multiscale guitars to the challenge. While I have studiously avoided both in the past, now that I'm considering taking on NST as part of a project, it seems only logical to do so on a multiscale...

Is spaghetti better with or without meatballs?

Yes it is. Sorry, but I'm missing your point? Always a good idea to go vegetarian/vegan for maximum sharing, though going "fake meat" is never a good idea IMHO. Pesto or a tomato-based sauce (e.g. arribiata, vegetarian putanesca, tomato-basil) usually doesn't fail.
