    Seeking Advice For First build

I see you're from Beckley! nice. I was in Parkersburg a couple weeks back and the Woodcraft store up there has a decent selection of exotic hardwoods. I know its a haul, but if you can find an excuse to get up that way the Woodcraft store is worth stopping. There used to be some hardwood places...

    Double blind tone wood test

Any test done would only really have results for the guitars tested. Wood varies so much that even two acoustic guitars cut from the same tree will vary to a certain degree because the wood grain will not be truly uniform throughout the tree. Add to that that the sound of an amplified...

    Double blind tone wood test

I think that the only reliable way to do this would be: 1. Mount a test pickup to a table or solid structure. (even the same pickup type will vary by unit) 2. Create a mounting bracket so that electic guitar can be placed facing the picukup with each string a set distance from the test pickup...

    Laminate bodies?

I stopped by the Woodcraft store here in WV and noticed they had a good selection of exotic wood, but it was all in odd smaller shapes. I thought a technique like that might make me able to use some of the smaller stuff like that. Not really saving wood, but allowing me to maybe use a different...

    Laminate bodies?

Has anyone had any success making bodies out of multiple laminates? I saw that absurd looking gibson zoot suit sg and was wondering. I don't really want to make a guitar that looks like hard candy, but it might be a good technique to save wood.

What does everyone use for drawing up plans and/or mock-ups?

Thanks for all the feedback! When you guys are saying AutoCAD do you mean the actual Autodesk AutoCAD that starts at $4,000 USD? I'm sure that is a part of why all the guitars I see made on the forum look so damn good! I can see that program is definitely the industry standard, but...

What does everyone use for drawing up plans and/or mock-ups?

AutoCAD is fairly pricey isn't it? I haven't heard of Illustrator. I've seen a few people mention Google Sketchup in some threads now too.

What does everyone use for drawing up plans and/or mock-ups?

I'm slowly getting closer to attempting my first build and want to start drawing up a plan with actual dimensions and all that, but when it comes to putting pencil to paper I have the artistic skills of a drunk toddler. I'd like to try something digital instead. Any recommendations? What...

Forgive me if you answered this elsewhere and I missed it ,but where do you get the aluminum profiles you use to make your super rig? I think that setup is genius and want to try something like it, but all I can find are wholesale sales of (very expensive) extruded profiles. Also I joined the...
