Mostly to build great patches to jam and write with. I'll use them to record as well, but during mixing I'll definitely dive in and find the perfect IRs for the mix. I feel this. Yeah, this is what I'm realizing, I just need to "git gud" Great stuff. I guess I just need to keep working at...
Damn, interesting. I also find that the stock 10" sounds good, but I'm tempted to buy a G10 greenback and put it in. When I solo the amp with my EVH 112 (G12H-30), it does sound better. The two combined is even better.
Out of curiousity, did you keep the original speaker or did you swap it in your 40w? I was hesitant about getting 10" speaker, but trusted James' comments regarding it and it turned out excellent. Surprisingly big sounding, and I think the resonance knob has a lot to do with it. If you do end...
Yeah, I'm definitely trying to find one, and maybe suplementent it with a little bit of a second to fill in any holes. and make the composite of that combination as a go-to IR. Not trying to build a composite of 4+ different IRs from different speakers/cabs etc... It also dawned on me that I...
I know the topic of IRs vs real cabs gets brought up often, but I promise this is different. I'm not trying to convince anyone that they should be micing their cabs, or that IRs are better. All I want to discuss is the observations I've made and to solicit some thought and ideas from this...
Yeah, feel the same. If I could go back I would get the 40w so that I can have a proper 2-1x12 setup (instead of my 1x10 + 1x12). And I would experiment with a different speaker in the 40w. Maybe one day I'll trade up to the 40w. Edit: To be clear, I love the 15w, it sounds amazing. But for a...
Did you ever end up trying the 15w? It's pretty awesome, and sounds very huge compared to any/all other 10" combos I've ever tried. Thanks in part to the closed back construction and the resonance knob.
i recently removed reverb from the equation after Petrucci mentioned it and it has made an improvement on my lead tone. It felt so obvious afterwards. I always used reverb for no good reason other than "everyone else does", but I was never happy with my tone. anyway, plenty of people use...
I believe it was Jeff at Keisel that has said that when you get too many plies, it stops resonating like a single piece of wood, would. So basically there's a balance between strength/stability and resonance. Who knows if it's true. I have guitars with quarterssawn necks and some with 5-piece...
We all know that title goes to the 5150, come on Jon!! Just kidding, there is no goat amp. Makes me wonder though, what do you really get with expensive amps like this? Reliability? Is that what you're paying for mostly?
I've watched the Periphery ones at least twice for each one, so so good. Just finished watching the Vola ones, really love that type of music, thanks for sharing, I'll be checking out that album now.
Sound City! Yeah I remember buying that when it first came out, probably over a decade ago now. Was great! Yep, seen this one, even though I've never listened to LoG, I really enjoyed it! Will check this out!
In an effort to combat the number of non-guitar/music related threads, I thought I'd start a thread about studio documentaries. There is no other genre of TV that I love more than studio documentaries. I LOVE to see music being created and captured. I've sometimes become a fan of a band because...
I had a DSL 40 for a total of one afternoon, then returned it. I sounded weak at bedroom levels, so much so that it was unusable for me. That was around 2006 or so, so maybe the current ones are better at low volumes now.
Ok, we're talking a used instrument in not excellent shape. And OP is looking for a reasonable price window. I don't think 50% of new is unreasonable. And if it is the the shape that OP says, then <75% is probably the reasonable upper bound. So question is, what's it cost new in Euros? I know...
