Axe has 4 or 5 8 strings on their site, including a Schecter. They don't have any in stock? I know one of my friends played a Schecter 8 somewhere the other day, I'll ask him where.

Coming from playing a bass I find it a lot easier to do arpeggios and scales in full fourths. The only disadvantage I can think of would be the inability to do barre chords. I'm surprised it hasn't caught on hugely with shredders.

Also there should be a difference in neck shapes. Ibanez guitars usually have quite thin necks, whereas Schecter have fairly thick necks. From what I can see the neck joint on the Schecter resembles your average Fender neck joint (starts around ~16-17th fret). It might pose a problem for you if...
