Is Guitar Center a good place to buy? what are your experiences?

My only problem with guitar center is that the staff is very, very unkowledgeable, but this hasn't bothered me too much for years since I don't rely on what a GC employee is trying to pitch me. My most recent experience with this was I was trying out a head and the guy set it up for me and used...

How has no one mentioned Walls of Jericho yet?

    Females and Metal

I agree with this too and it sucks. It's kind of a double edged sword, though, because aggresive music can appear very misogynistic and can be precieved as only appropriate for men, which tends to keep women on the sidelines(sadly). But then when a female says, "screw that, I live and breathe...

Does an amp like this exist? Or am I dreaming?

I would definitely suggest something in the peavey classic series. I just got a peavey classic 100(although, I've had playing and recording experience with one for about 3 years) which runs el84's and sounds like it's exactly what you're going for. Very warm sounding amp with enough gain for...

Thanks dudes! I'm absolutely loving it!

    NAD(peavey content)

Thanks brother! I'm so happy about it. I'm literally always GASing about gear and I've been on the hunt for another amp for a while now and this is perfect for me right now.

    NAD(peavey content)

Just got this Peavey Classic 100 today! The other guitarist in my band has had one for about 3 years now and I've been jealous ever since he got it. These amps are awesome. Not a super modern metal machine, but perfect for what I do and it's loud as shit.

Help with choosing a budget cab

I literally gave this is exact recommendation like two days ago in another thread. Hell yeah. This is honestly one of your best ways to go for less than $200. :yesway:

    Am I doing something wrong?

It's always tough to be certain about what the problem is when it comes to something like this because every player is different and everyone has different tastes. The 5150 II isn't the least fizzy amp by any means, but it certainly can be controlled. Right off the bat, I would say technique and...

    Cab Assistance

Yeah, I totally forgot that you mentioned that. That person is giving you the run around and just wants you to pay more. I would just tell him no thanks and if those other people back out(which they will, since they don't exist) then to let you know. And if he does get back to you then offer him...

    Cab Assistance

Haha bummerrrr man. Well I would say, do some research on all of your (reasonable)available options and pick the one that seems like the best quality/would best suit your needs and then you can upgrade your speakers in the future. As much as the cab itself does matter, so do the speakers. V30's...

    Cab Assistance

Honestly, I would hold off on both of those cabs and shoot for something a little better. Neither of those will really do any head justice. I know some things seem more important than others, but when it comes down to it, every piece of your rig matters. Randall does make some awesome cabs, but...

    JCM 800 Alternatives

I know you're looking for lower watt amps, but you should reallyyy check out peavey VTM's and butchers. Both amps are extremely similar to 800s and marshall even made peavey stop making both amps because of how similar they were. They can be found for between $150 and $300 on the reg. The VTM...

Speaker Guys - WGS Veteran 30s??

I literally have the same exact vet 30/gt-75 combo in an x pattern in my marshall 1960B and it sounds great. The WGS speakers are definitely awesome. I think the Veterans sound very similar to Vintage 30's. The differences are minimal.

    Distortion pedal recommendations

Thanks y'all! I think I'm holding off on the pedal->clean tube amp set up for now, but I'll definitely keep all of this in mind if I decide to give it another whirl. Really appreciate all the suggestions.

Is it possible to give a SLO 100 a modern metal tone?

Yeah man, the SLO pretty much is modern metal. It's what most of the 90's high gain amps were trying to be. I'm sure it's not AS tight as an engl or vht, but with a boost I'm sure it's incredible. I wish I had one. Also, an overdrive is actually going to do the exact opposite of what you were...

    Metalcore/Deathcore Amp Head

All of this is so true. Moderate settings on pretty much any amp, unless you're going for a very "unique" or extreme tone, are generally going to get you a better sound. I think your biggest problem though is trying it in guitar center. 5150s/6505s sound veryyyy bad at low volumes. Most tube...
