That’s actually a good idea. I think that’s smart. Why pay more when you can get the same thing for less!

When it comes down to it it’s really less about the equipment and more so about who is playing the guitar and their ability. The guitar and pickups will only have an effect on your tone if you are in total control of your playing. I think a lot of people tend to buy something like that because...

That’s just insane what some people will pay for!!

I agree. The CFS seems like it came from the same marketing team who thought up the "Buzz Feiten Tuning system." I think it is a marketing gimmick as well. Having said that, the fretwork, fit and finish on all the FGN guitars I have seen or played has been perfect. So they can call it...

You know it’s the small details like that for me why I like guitars. Whether it be a truss rod cover or large metal knobs (like Hagstrom or Gretsch have). Visually I think it really makes the guitar.

Ohhh I know! The “how much does this guitar weigh” crowd will pay anything (and usually return it) just to get that “right” tone. It’s the same mentality that if I buy Michael Jordan’s signature sneakers then I will too will now play basketball like Michael Jordan. I used to teach guitar for...

That sounds a bit much. I can’t imagine paying that for any pickup.

You might be right about the valuation on that Electra LP that I saw. Rarity does indeed bring prices up usually. Also, you are correct abou the MIJ pickups. I have a bunch of MIJ guitars and without exception their pickups have always been great.

Yeah you are certainly paying for name just like anything else. Tokai and Aria are not as well known in the United States where as Ibanez, Yamaha, and Orville ( or Epiphone Elite) go for more money in general because they are much more well known brands. It really comes down to “what’s in a name.”

I saw a pretty worn bolt on MIJ Electra LP earlier today on Reverb going for that price. That is far too high for a guitar like that. However, it doesn’t surprise me to see an actual set neck Greco LP going for $1200 USD. I don’t know how that translates into Canadian dollars.

Thank you for the video, pictures and explanation. That was very helpful. I love those old 3 piece maple necks. They all had a really nice feel to them and were rock solid.

The Epiphone Elitist guitars were the same as Orville and were made in either the FGN (Fujigen (solidbodies) or at the Terada Factory (hollow and semi-hollowbodies). However, FGN has nothing to do with Epiphone except building their guitars. Fujigen is similar to how Cort’s factory works. They...

I didn’t realze that Greco made copies in Korea also. I always thought that they were exclusively a Japanese made brand. Either way your guitar is very cool!

I know what you mean those guitars are definitely not for everyone. Their shapes are definitely a bit polarizing. Either you like them or you don’t!

If it were me I’d leave it! I like everything stock. If you wanted to do a Zakk Wylde guitar I’d get one of those Odin Grails from Wylde audio. But that’s just me!

That guitar looks brand new to me! It’s amazing to see such a clean 45 year old guitar!

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Certainly the new Japanese guitars are made in a higher volume with at least some CNC work. From what I understand alot the necks of Japanese guitars are hand carved. I’m not sure how true that is for FGN but I believe the bodies are CNC.

The funny thing is I would imagine the new Japanese guitars play just as good or better. However, you are paying for all the engraving and labor with the original English guitars.

Those are really beautiful intruments and very high quality. Perhaps the engraved front of the guitar is not for everyone which is why it might be a hard to sell item.
