Quite a few structural changes to what I was doing with the low end, and where the vocals sit. They don't sit on top so much anymore but more in the mix (at least I think so) Wav file mp3 File
Firstly, set your out ceiling to -0.3. It's the most a human ear can normally perceive, and gives you headroom for .... D/A coverters to not sound like they clip. Next. Staged compression and looking at an RMS meter (such as bx_meter or any number of free ones). You want to be aiming for...
Lets do an exercise. When you're talking about a Stereo Bar... Is THIS the sort of thing you're talking about. The intention behind one of these is to create an aligned plane for you to position things on. It makes it VERY easy to make X/Y or ORTF setups, or even general spaced pairs...
Yea I read that and was like "lulwut" If they're in X/Y and the same type of mic sure, but that won't mean the capsules are matched distances to the source.
One REALLY easy way to test if they're in phase. 1 - place them and eyeball it. 2 - Record 10 or so seconds of guitar. 3 - zoom all the way in on the waveform, check to see if the waveforms align. 4 - readjust and repeat until they're in phase.
I know Nolly used to have a pair ages ago, back in the Red Seas Fire days. This is such a bizarre question though. Like, are you asking if they're good or not? Are you trying to prove a point? This is such a roundabout way of asking a question.
Just spent a few days with a grammy award winning Engineer. He sends kick and snare to an external distressor. Snare compresses a good 12+dB, kick 4-6dB on the same unit. Dist 2 mode. Mixes it about 6dB under the main kick and snare... so yea, I'm going with "ever living s***". Gives the drums...
More low end oomph in your snare. 200Hz shelf usually does it. Parallel compress the ever living s*** out of those drums... Get the room mics from EZ drummer and blast them like you blasted the inside of a toilet the last time you had diarrhea. ALL the distortion and compression. Mix them...
Unless you're using logic, don't bother. (and if that's your plan, go Studio One instead!) OSX is not really why we use Mac in the industry. It certainly is good, but the fact that the OS and the hardware are driver matched and it's a closed system gives greater stability. Build a...
What DAW are you using? Honestly, in most cases I find for these sorts of things that it's less about the fact the computer can't handle it, and more about session management. Once you are happy with a MIDI part (e.g. strings, orchestral percussion etc) are you rendering down to audio tracks?
It's not the budget end of things, it's just the design and response of them. They're SUPER low end heavy, so people tend to over compensate on them, and the tweeter design is pretty average, as is the baffling. The new Scepter and Eris Monitors from Presonus actually put them and the...
