I decided to cover Misery Signals today (Melakartha)

Cheers all. My desktop speakers (which I use to set the low-end levels right) blew last week, that explains the screwed up kick drum. After hearing it on multiple speakers and headphones I hate the sound of the kick :( Now who'se up for the br00t vocals over this? :D I want to do a cover of...

I decided to cover Misery Signals today (Melakartha)

Thanks for the feedback guys. A lot of people were telling me that the kick was a bit weird, so I've changed it up and mixed it again :) Here's the new mix - SoundClick artist: Melakartha - Melakartha is the sideproject of Multi-Instrumentalist Sridharan Ravichandran

I decided to cover Misery Signals today (Melakartha)

^^ Someone's gotta cover up for the fugly sounding bass which was a guitar, one octave down. Mr. Kick came to the rescue :D Thanks dude, I gotta write up that post soon, I've just been so swamped! Peace RV

Melakartha - Time Machine (Sci-fi Brutality)

^^ Thanks mate :) I loev the interpretation, and appreciate the feedback. I noticed that I overdid the going for the 'vintage' sound with the guitars. I think boosting somewhere between 8-10k would have really solved the problem :)

I decided to cover Misery Signals today (Melakartha)

I love "A Certain death"! wanted to try a new mix as well, I thought it turned out quite good for a couple hours of doodling :) Guitars were lined out from my HT-5, and drums are superior 2.0 SoundClick artist: Melakartha - Melakartha is the sideproject of Multi-Instrumentalist Sridharan...

Tight! Wish the guitars had wee more presence.

Melakartha - Time Machine (Sci-fi Brutality)

Cheers man. I don't quite remember the compression settings on the kick on that song, but the kit was Metal foundry. I added the Waves Rbass on the kick for extra low end. Thanks for the feedback mate :) The guitars were kept more midrangey as I thought it 'vibed' better with the song but...

New Carthage Song! (Chaotic prog-downs, tapping, Froove)

Very cool dude. The guitar toanz are the shizzle. It sounds like a dog barking at some parts \m/ \m/ What's your recording setup? One thing I noticed is that the kick has a bit too much low end on it, but it could be just me.

Heavy Metal Production in the Bedroom

I've never been too big on saturation plugins on my mix. I have seen it do great things to individual guitar tracks, and it's wonderful when parallel compressing my drums. I'm guessing people turn to these Saturation plugins hoping for warmth that they hear in good mixes. Warmth will definitely...

Heavy Metal Production in the Bedroom

Hello Harry, Appreciate your honest discourse, mate. You're dead on right about the 'commercial' aspect. I guess almost is a very vague word, and it can mean anywhere between 50% to 90% haha! I have a LOT, and I repeat, a LOT to learn in mixing alone, leave alone mastering. But this series of...

Heavy Metal Production in the Bedroom

tr0n, Thanks for chiming in :) I love parallel compression, though it isn't something that I can't do without. Hence, I didn't cover it in the previous post. In fact, your post inspired me to do something - write up a visual tutorial on Compression - something that I felt would be way more...

Recording guitars with two guitar players, what's the best solution?

Why don't you try Quad as suggested above? Try different chord voicings and the such. 2 by you, 2 by him. Pan it out like no tomorrow, and the playing inconsistencies are quite evened out. Within limits, of course :)

Heavy Metal Production in the Bedroom

    1) The main thing you want to keep in mind when tracking, is tightness, and also the treble and presence knobs in your POD modeller. If you're the kind who likes processing options later, make sure to save a D.I'ed track as well. 2) Personal preference, really :) I compose, program, and mix my...

Anyone like trance? (yes, i made a trance song)

Very cool, and different work, MF_Kitten. The whole song has this nice 'DARK' feel which makes it more listenable for us haha! Digging the metal-guitar influenced synth programming - Maybe layering guitars over this will add even more sex to it? I'd love to hear more layers in there, to open up...

Heavy Metal Production in the Bedroom

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. About the questions, I'll answer them as soon as I get home. EDIT - Managed to paste that post here! phew This post is continued as part of the “Heavy Metal Production in your Bedroom” series. Last week, I covered tracking your instruments...

Heavy Metal Production in the Bedroom

Thanks for the awesome feedback fellas! Of course I don't mind your chiming in, fourfour - Sharing is caring! This is interesting - Certainly, 'central' weight is lost when you hardpan your guitars, but generally when you mix your other stuff in nicely, you will not feel the absence of the...
