    Killer Guitars

Tried reaching out to Big Boss for more info but they just referred me over to Killer's website =(

    Killer Guitars

There's gotta be good information out there and folks motivated enough to dig it up. After all, that's how things started with Tokai, all the Fujigen builds, Matsumoku brands, etc... wasn't really a lot out there in English. I feel like now that the above stuff has been mined, and also he...

    Killer Guitars

Short update: I got the Marquis and it's goddamn fantastic! In the same shipment I got an ESP Original (Sado custom shop) Throbber and about a week later I got a Schecter Los Angeles. The Marquis is my favorite of the three! I'm really trying to get a handle on their line-up, there's incredibly...

    Killer Guitars

Yea, seems pretty cool. With it's Gibson scale, TOM bridge, etc, seems to be a slightly cheaper slightly funkier E-II Eclipse. More or less.

    Killer Guitars

Thank you! Also, in case anyone else stumbles across this: I got a response from ESP Craft House that the Marquis is also 12"

    Killer Guitars

Way little info out there in the wild about these axes, which is unfortunate as they seem like a killer (🙄) way to get into ESP Japan quality for less. At killer.jp they have most of the specs for the guitars but no fretboard radii listed for a lot of the models, like the Marquis. Anyone have...

Schecter Japan vs. Ibanez Prestige quality

Thanks, I appreciate that! Smart idea =) I also just realized that the ESP Throbber is 22 fret while the Schecter Japan PT and KR are both 24 fret, so there's really no possibility they're badge-engineered variants of the same guitar

Schecter Japan vs. Ibanez Prestige quality

FWIW, I don't see why it's not possible. The list prices on the solid-top models would be very, um, aspirational for guitars coming from factories other than the very highest tier such as ESP. And, intuitively, if management already owned both ESP and Schecter, and decided they wanted to offer...

Schecter Japan vs. Ibanez Prestige quality

With those Schecters... who knows? =( Still some reasonable deals, generally-speaking, for a MIJ guitar. Killer has been on my radar but sadly I'm 100% no-sir on Floyds. I have a great MIJ Charvel that I never play because I find the Floyd a hassle to setup and change strings on when I'm so...

Schecter Japan vs. Ibanez Prestige quality

I know you no longer have the SD but to your memory did it seem to have a compound radius fretboard? Somewhat bizarrely the Schecter site omits that particular spec while including pretty much everything else you'd expect

Schecter Japan vs. Ibanez Prestige quality

Thanks for the useful insights folks. Lots of circumstantial/speculative stuff, but I do see: *Wikipedia confirmation of shared ownership between Schecter and ESP *Serial number formats appear consistent with ESP Sado format. HOWEVER, I understand Sado to be bolt-on only, and I see Schecter...

Schecter Japan vs. Ibanez Prestige quality

I'm curious more about the ones that are more like ~10 years old or so now. ESP QC still strong then? Almost shocking how high the list prices were for those (JPY)

Schecter Japan vs. Ibanez Prestige quality

Hey folks, trying to get a better understanding of the Schecter Japan (not the new Diamond Series) guitars and it seems fairly compelling that they are probably ESP's even if not confirmed. I'm trying to find fretboard radius specs on the guitars and struggling to find that. Specifically trying...

Is Kirk Hammett the worst guitar icon of all time?

To me that's key. I feel like that stuff has much more of a James vibe than Kirk vibe. Even on Death Magnetic I preferred James's solo for Suicide and Redemption than Kirk's. Aren't most of the Nothing Else Matters leads James too?

Incoming NGD: 1998 Navigator NX (ESP MX-220 shape)!

Correction to the above, the bridge string spacing is typical ABR-1, but somehow the positioning and playability feels better. Also: my parents always told me to go for gold =P

Is Kirk Hammett the worst guitar icon of all time?

Literally the second album I ever bought, and that track is still pretty much unique against all the metal that I've heard since. I've always wondered with the more melodic and cleaner parts of that album, how much of that was Kirk and how much of it was James. Asking seriously, since I have no...

    EMG Pickup Tolerance Question

Necro-bump but I just got a gold EMG 81 to replace my old block logo EMG 81 for aesthetic reasons, and the new one sounds significantly different (running both at 18v on the same batteries). It also has about 4.5 dB higher output if my methodology for checking clipping through my Fractcal FM3...

Incoming NGD: 1998 Navigator NX (ESP MX-220 shape)!

Doesn't appear to be of much interest to people other than me, but to keep my own notes in one place: I've noticed that the bridge and tailpiece are Fender width (wider) rather than Gibson width (narrower). This is in contrast to my Navigator LP, which has the Gibson bridge width, and to actual...

Incoming NGD: 1998 Navigator NX (ESP MX-220 shape)!

So I went the "traditional" EMG route on this guitar, but without the routing! Changed the neck Duncan 59 to an EMG 60. While I was at it I changed from soldered to solderless but woe was me when I found the solderless setup takes so much space that I could barely fit a 9v, let alone 2x 9v...
