A method I've used before is to saw down the crack with a saw with a kerf wide enough to allow me to slide a glue covered piece of matching wood veneer down in to the full reach of the crack. Let the glue cure, then trim off the excess veneer, sand to match and locally refinish.
pretty much this ... and this comes from a pickup manufacturer ... most modern pickups, and especially encapsulated ones like EMG are pretty much bombproof. The rest of the wiring is far more likely to be the problem. Actually most modern pickups that come to me to be rewound have been messed up...
Thank you sir :) the RG7321 is an excellent beast ... Ah the Panther ... like this with my Oil City Masterwound Blackbirds ... Like a chubby Black Machine ... not a coincidence that Jon made the B6 Black Machines  Jon does do a cracking guitar!
I finished the work to date yesterday and have had a day off from the workshop ... I can't put the damn guitar down now! The action is WAY better ... I can actually get some speed up and do a bit of tapping etc. I knew there was a good guitar in there struggling to get out. Any good pickups...
Pretty much right ... I had a customer come to me with a pair of custom shop pickups ... I won't mention the make ... he'd filled out all the paperwork, degree of slant ... yada yada yada, it still too five months to deliver an admittedly visually lovely set of pickups ... with totally the wrong...
Ormsby has If i remember 17 and 24 degrees ... I built custom versions of my Blackbirds for one a while ago for a customer ... kinda wish there was some standardisation going on ... with pole spacing too ... on several occasions I've had to custom CNC stuff for weird and wonderful measurements!
And so .... forwards! Not wishing to repeat the Black Beauties debacle I decided to give these Dunlops a go. I waas pleased to find the 62 string still went through the locking tuner button with no Issue, I was a bit concerned by what others had said about the cheaper tuners being very...
Okay .... so let's crack on with this ... The rather crap Black Beauties showed up that there was a high fret up the 'dusty end' that was choking like hell with every big string bend around the 14th fret. So ... piano wire cutters taken to the DRs £12 wasted ... but hey ho. And out with...
I make my living from making pickups, so I find myself forced to play daily even if I don't feel like it. When I feel kinda meh and my creativity feels dried up. I grab a different tuning ... If I'm demoing pickups I really don't have to be in E standard all the time, so I might have a blast at...
And then I had to go and make a poor decision. I really liked the look of DR Black Beauties ... and the wax treatment had darkened the fingerboard pretty much to ebony ... so they'd look great ... and they did ... They are also the worst strings I have ever tried ... DR are usually good, but...
I had been looking at getting a seven string for ages ... I mean part of my living is making pickups for them ... so I really ought to play one myself. :) I could have gone out and bought a multiple hundreds of pounds seven and just played it, but I'm the sort of person who likes to see how far...
Personally I think we are way overdue a Scandinavian style monarchy ... cut out the hangers on ... and allow em to abdicate for retirement. Yep even though I'm a leftie through and through ... I still think a vague constitutional monarchy is better than a Presidential system ... Trump anyone...
The whole thing is a mahoosive clusterf**k ... And campaigning for the tories means attempting trying to convince large swathes of the population that poverty is really quite cool - really. That of course nowt 'bent' happened over covid PPE contracts (and if it did ... here's nothing to see...
You are completely correct that the way a coil is wound has a huge impact on sound and behavior of the pickup. But missing something fairly huge ;-) The reason people pay people like me to rewind vintage (as well as modern) pickups, and indeed to design and build our own new pickups - is years...
