The Sovtek tubes that VHT used stock in their amps are fine - a lot of people like to bitch about one tube being better than another but the reality is that for the most part the sonic differences between tubes are rather negligible. Regarding matched preamp tubes: if you mean preamp tubes with...
It could be the tube perhaps, but first try inserting a short cable in to the serial fx loop send/return jacks. It's apparently a pretty common problem for those jacks to fuck up, which makes the amp sound neutered. Closing off the fx loop with a cable will increase the overall gain a bit. I...
I can vouch for the Deliverance 60 working pretty well with an 8-string too. I ended up selling my 8 after about a year though; shit is just too much for me lol. Honestly though if you are playing really brutal 8-string stuff I think you'd be better off with something like an old valvestate...
Never had that problem with mine, though with really high gain settings it would feedback like a banshee. Even my Decimator could barely tame that thing! Pretty cool pre though! Are you certain that your guitar isn't the issue?
Dude, that sucks ass. Sadly I have read lots of ENGL nightmares before, which sucks because they sound so bitchin'. My room mate has had an ENGL Thunder for a few years now and not a lick of trouble though! Anyways, you definitely don't REALLY need tubes to sound good. I picked up one of those...
I picked up a Marshall 8200 Bi-Chorus head last week; with that amp I think they were trying to emulate the sound of pure evil, because the thing fucking slays. Best sounding SS amp I've played I believe.
I freaking love my Blackstar HT-5; never selling it!! Ultimate 5 watt high gainer IMO. Here's a lil taste of how I run mine: netmusicians.org - the guitar gear mp3 database
:hbang: Glad it arrived safely and you're digging it! The small frets was the only thing I didn't really like about the guitar - seems odd they decided to use those  Get that sucker refretted with jumbo stainless
I occasionally used to play my seven in drop D and just skip over the low B, because 99% of my band's songs are in drop D. Not too bad on a 7-string but if you try it on an 8 it's kind of a mindfuck :D
Dunno how the COW7 compares but the COW 6-string is literally one of the shittiest Jackson guitars I've ever played. I couldn't believe what a cheaply made POS that thing was :noway:
He asked about width AND thickness  Anyways, though I've never actually measured the width of the necks on the Intrepid and the B-206, the Agile definitely FEELS wider due to its much thicker neck.
I've spoken directly to a peavey rep who verified that the guitar is imported, but I ain't scared because Peavey's keeps a tight leash on QC. I know I'll be buying one of these the day they are released. Having owned a 28.6" scale agile 8-string i'm really looking forward to this axe :D I'm...
My bassist plays the LTD B-206 and I owned the Agile Intrepid 8-string for about a year. The 8-string neck is thicker and the back profile is not as nicely shaped as the bass neck IMO. I guess 8's just aren't for me - I stuck with it for a long time but i'm going back to sevens. Getting a low...
