    Pure stainless steel strings?

You're a life saver! :D I'm going to check out Newtone right away. I thought about trying a stainless steel bass string and the tech guys at Thömann told me usually if it's the next string up it should work. I read somewhere that the core is thicker and that there are more windings or so on a...

    Pure stainless steel strings?

Can't forget it if I can't see it :D Jokes apart... thanks anyway :)

    Pure stainless steel strings?

I've been looking for stainless steel strings for my 7-string. The strings need to be: 1. Hexagonal core, not round core 2. Pure stainless steel, not nickel wound D'Addario, for example, for the low B offer gauges up to 0.56 and then the next one after that is a 0.70. No in betweens. I'm aiming...

Thicker strings and the effect on tone?

Thank you all for the replies! I'll speak with my guitar tech about putting 11s on Eb or staying with 10s. Since 11s are tighter and there's less vibration, you can go lower on the action. Incidentally, John Petrucci uses 11s for Eb.

Thicker strings and the effect on tone?

Hi, all! I came across Cannibal Corpse's gear info here: Cannibal Corpse - Rob Barrett Guitar Gear Rig and Equipment And noticed that guitarist Rob Barrett (and I think Pat O'Brien, too) uses 13-56 or 13-63 gauge strings for his 6-string guitar. Now I know that they tune down to Eb on...

Triple Rectifier tone and gain problem

mongey: Thanks for the reply. I solved the issue of hissing and crackling. I feel so stupid... it was the battery for the EMGs that needed to be changed. :) Totally forgot about that. I assumed it would last longer. TRENCHLORD: Yeah, that's true. I personally go for 'medium tension' gauges. I...

Triple Rectifier tone and gain problem

So I've been re-considering whether it's worth it for me, personally, to use my Maxon OD808 or just plug straight into the amp. Maybe because I use active EMG 81 (b) and EMG 85 (n) that, when used in combination with the Maxon, increase the hiss and noise from the amp since the active pickups...

Triple Rectifier tone and gain problem

No, I wasn't using any attenuators. I apologize if didn't explain myself well enough. But I am aware that attenuators alter the tone. Thanks for reminding me. I'm starting to think that possibly the power tubes were weak. I'll explain. They're stock Mesa that came with the amp and are coded...

Triple Rectifier tone and gain problem

So, regarding amp settings... Mesa's Rectifier series has multi-watt settings, e.g. selectable 100W or 50W settings. I think I prefer the 50W because the poweramp tubes distort easier. I tried for a while with basically preamp saturation and clean 150W power section but ended up damaging the...

Triple Rectifier tone and gain problem

lemeker: Thanks. I'm guessing the popping when changing channels on Mesas could be due to the multi-watt settings the player chooses. For example, when going from one channel set at say 150W to an other set at 50W. Maybe the Celestion speakers react that way. I'm not sure but for other big...

Triple Rectifier tone and gain problem

AEnigma: The Triple Rectifier is multi-watt. It has a 50W option. I hope I understood what you meant. Playing with the gain dimed silly... well, I guess to each his own. The tone gets saturated and thick at about 2/3 o'clock. Maxed (at around 5:30) the tone stays more or less the same as at the...

Triple Rectifier tone and gain problem

Hi, all! I need some advice about getting more saturation and low end from my Triple Rectifier. The manual says to keep the gain knob in the middle range because if it is maxed it can cause noise and microphonic problems in the preamp tubes. And, in fact, I need to change them. So, I'm...

High and Low Pass Filtering pedals or rack units?

Quick update: Since I already use a boost pedal (and it's an all-tube Blackstar HT-Boost pedal), I decided I may either get the VFE Focus and just use the eq section (not the boost). Or get the Empress ParaEQ pedal. Just for additional info... I was thinking I could use the eq pedal before...

High and Low Pass Filtering pedals or rack units?

Thank you all for the replies! I bookmarked the VFE Focus page for later reading! But so far it seems like a great alternative to a Tube Screamer with more tone shaping possibilities! As for what I'm thinking of doing... I may ask an electrical engineering services shop to install high...

High and Low Pass Filtering pedals or rack units?

Hi, all! It's been a while... I've been searching on Google all day and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Basically, I'm trying to find a way to set up a high and low pass filters pedal or perhaps a parametric eq pedal or unit to my amp. Do they even exist? The high pass filter, for...

[Lesson] An Introduction to Seven String Scales

Hi everyone! Drew: Even though this thread has been posted a while ago, I'd like to thank you for making it. You helped me and many others get oriented on the fretboard. I've got a question. Would it be possible to get used to the fretboard by using interval formulas like...

    Cabinets for 7-string guitars?

Thanks for the replies! Josh Lawson: Thanks for that Randall link! The info specifically says it's ideal for 7-string guitars. The mixture of 12" speakers with one 15" speaker is exactly what I was looking for. Plus, they're Celestion speakers so I don't think I could ask for anything better...

    Cabinets for 7-string guitars?

Hi, I wanted to know what you guys think about cabinets with 2 x 15" speakers (as opposed to cabinets with 4 x 12" speakers.) I assume the bass frequencies sound clearer and the low pitch of the B-string is more articulate on the 2 x 15" cabinets.

    Ibanez RG1527 with EMGs

Yeah, nervous is the word. First I've been waiting for this guitar since last Christmas (the only Ibanez dealer on this island couldn't get me this 7-string model, so I had to order it by mail.) Then the freaking pickups weren't available so I had to order those, too. Then I'm told it's a...
