    Yes, those are EDOs EDO = Equal Division of the Octave Regular western tuning for guitar/piano/keys is 12edo. If you want to stay within the western 'meantone' way of thinking 19edo and 31edo are good choices (nice tunings for the major and minor chords, keys work mostly the same way)...

    There's some folks here that run modelers into tube poweramps for exactly this reason. They also have a much smoother clipping profile compared to SS and older digital stuff.

    GuitarBizarre, if you want less 'clank' and more 'smooth' you might want to try flatwounds. They can have clank too depending on the type, setup and play style, but it doesn't dominate the tone as much as it does with roundwounds. They sound really cool with some dirt too.
