Imo that depends on what you are focusing on. If the focus is on cleaning up your playing gain should be used as dissonance is enhanced this way and mistakes more easily heard. Guys, the general consensus seems to be that the 500 series is great bang for the buck in general. What about the sound properties? I' ve noticed that some basses are acoustically loud and metallic sounding (my preference) others are really quiet. The one I tested was somewhere in the middle...

Thanks for the input guys. I will definitely check this bass out in person. On top of the specs it looks gorgeous. Normally natural wood finishes doesn't do it for me but this looks really good. Hopefully there will be a NBD soon...
