New tremolo- what to do with back plate?

Toshiro, thanks--I didn't know they made them shorter AND thicker. I'll definitely get one of those.

New tremolo- what to do with back plate?

I replace the Edge III in my RG370DX with a Gotoh trem recently, and am a little bothered by the fact that the longer block slightly protrudes out of the back of the cavity. I don't want to get a shorter block, as I love the new tone, but I really prefer having the backplate on because I keep on...

    SD Modular Active Preamp... Ground?

Ok. I didn't see a ground on the diagrams, but I'm going to reinstall the ground because that just makes sense. That's gonna be a pain, I wish I didn't remove it in the first place.

    SD Modular Active Preamp... Ground?

Does this thing need to be grounded to the strings like a normal passive setup? I have a TOM bridge, and I thought that active pickups didn't need it, so I pulled the wire off the post. But now I'm noticing that my guitar (which sounds AMAZING now) has a buzz unless I touch one of the...

Remember this is a 7 string we're talking about here. Haha. It is a pretty dark sounding guitar on the low end, but the higher strings are pretty bright also. It's pretty strange really. So I just messed with it for a while. It sounds great, using it as a 6 string- for whatever reason, the B...

Is there a different pickup recommended for a massively mahogany guitar? It's shaped about like a schecter 7, so use that as a basis... Looking for high output, solid lows. Not really too picky here.

    Duncans in Basswood...

That's the kind of comment I'm looking for, haha. I just need some similar guitars to test to see what really does sound better then. i'm not about to spend $80 just to try out a new sound, but it'd be nice to have another basswood with a Dimarzio, or maybe a Distortion in a mahogony, or...

    D-Activator issues.

Trust me, I tried every possible combination I could think of with the pole pieces. I just couldn't get it to sound good. i really think it's just the woods of the guitar. It's a maple neckthrough with mahogany wings, but the entire body is about 2" thick.

It's not clipping on clean anymore. I think I found my solution though- the Seymour Duncan Blackouts Modular Preamp. Just ordered one, looking forward to trying it :)

Well. The dullness was due to crazy old strings-- I changed them and it now has treble to it. But my problem is it still has ridiculously low output. And the low B just sounds like ass. I'm going to try reversing the wires (even though I'm confident they are correct) and see if that changes...

    REDUCE neck angle

Well, I tried it. Actually needed a doubled-up piece of credit card to achieve the change I was looking for. However it didn't give me the expected change in feel, so I just took it back out.

Why do you think the Distortion sucks in Basswood? What was it lacking to you?

Better question- what duncans have y'all tried in basswood that you didn't like?

    Duncans in Basswood...

I've been reading a lot of stuff lately about how nobody thinks Seymour Duncan pickups sound good in basswood. I've been using the SH-6 Distortion in my Ibanez RG for quite a while now, and it sounds fine to me... is there something I'm missing? What are the characteristics that are considered...

    REDUCE neck angle

mmm. I was thinking about that, but my only concern is that it'd be really noticable.

    REDUCE neck angle

I have a Schecter Damien Elite 7, with a TOM bridge. I want to decrease the neck angle, so I can lower the bridge to get my hand closer to the body for more comfortable playing. is there any easy way to do this? If not, I need a way to easily shave off material from the bottom of the neck...

    Rgt6exfx first time refinishing

Yeah- the sealer is the darker parts. Had that same issue when I refinshed my friend's ibanez. I swear, the sealer is harder to get through than the paint itself.

Can't get my freakin tremelo springs on...

I usually use the screwdriver method too. For me it's easy and quick.

It's a custom guitar that I built lol, it never really had "original pickups." Though when I had a ceramic Warpig in there, it didn't really satisfy me either. I think the guitar is just extremely dark sounding and that's what's causing some of the problem.
