I'll be there. It'd be awesome if it were at R&R, which is near my place. I'd love to have a go at cranking "the snot" out of those sexy ENGLs you have there. I don't know how I'll be able to stop myself from bringing more than one guitar though. Oh well... it's an SSO meet and I only have one...
Thanks everyone. I found a reputable Ebay dealer (thanks ralphy) that stocks lots of C8, as well as all sorts of Alnico including A8. You can buy them all individually (although there's really no reason to considering shipping costs). A lot of the C8 is "fully-charged", apparently...
I'm really at my wits' end here. I've heard quite often that it's difficult to find a magnet supplier that does anything other than bulk-orders. I've been interested in winding pickups for a while now, and I'm just trying to figure out where I'm going to get everything I need before I build or...
I suggest making sure you know exactly what you want in a neck pickup. I though I wanted a hot/fat/round neck pickup when I got my Warpig, but it ended up being not the ideal pickup for me. Second time around I got the Aftermath neck with a ceramic magnet and it's perfect. What do you use your...
Also, I got the Aftermath for the reason that I was considering the Painkiller and wanted something a little more punchy and less compressed. The Aftermath came out two days before I put in my order, but I didn't get it just because it was new. There is a bit of a bandwagon factor, but I'm...
The Aftermath in Basswood isn't a bad idea by any means. I know a lot of guys who've put their AMs in Basswood and got them to sound excellent (and none who've got bad tone). Plus Tim says so. That seals the deal. :yesway:
The MM does sound good in basswood. Nick's preference appears to be Miracle Man in basswood, but that doesn't make it the end-all-be-all by any means. My vote is for the Aftermath.
Horizon NT-II (C-Pig-b/Warpig-n) > TS9 (Gain 0-2, Tone 5-7) > H&K Switchblade 100. I have a Decimator but I'm good with my guitar-volume and the boost is more integral to my sound. Plus my switchblade has decent delay and half-assed modulation built in. :fawk:
What are your cleans going through? To me they sound like they need some compression and maybe a tiny bit more preamp gain (not to the point of breakup mind you). Awesome cover!
I'd say Aftermath (for pure tightness and punch) or Ceramic Nailbomb (a bit more compression and more forgiving) in the bridge and Aftermath or Coldsweat in the neck.
I use EBs on my all my guitars and I never break them. They stay bright and clear for way longer than the D'Addarios my friends use, plus they feel more solid. I just can't get used to the feel of most other strings; although I've never tried Elixirs.
I'm trying to figure out the 5 way switch in my blackjack. I can't understand how to wire it properly. Nothing about it seems in any way logical. Can anyone with experience with these things tell me how they work?
I'm 6'0" @ 210 and I've never had a problem with the way small guitars look on me (IMO my ESP Horizon is pretty small, not RR small mind you). I know OPs a bit bigger than me. It might be more the shape of the guitar as you say. All my guitars are the same general shape (Horizon, Strat, C7) and...
