It's not very realistic to build a guitar without at least a router, I would wait till you have one, or do what I suggested. A little hand sanding with a heavy grit and you could glue those up//////:hbang::hbang::hbang:
Well, if you don't have a router you aren't gonna make it very far in these builds. You could get a flat sanding block with some 40 grit sand paper then finish with 80 grit and that would be good enough. The idea is that the pieces need to be perfectly flat against each other or you will be...
Glad you like, and welcome aboard. I joined this forum for the same reason. I purchased my wood from Windsor Plywood. They are a local supplier who stock a decent amount of exotic hardwoods. Most of it is surfaced on 2 sides.
Ok guys, small update. Got the neck out of clamps and it looks good. Sanded it and fretted it. Just have to install the nut now, so close, but the last bit feels like it's taking forever. HUUUUUUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! More updates soon.
Congrats on deciding to go for it. I didn't know my ass from wood either when I started. I suggest you do a bolt on first. And a fixed bridge. Little less to worry about (neck angle and such), and if you screw the neck or the body up beyond repair, you still have the other piece:) EDIT: I like...
Well I suppose I'll detail this so any one trying to learn. First....Don't remove an existing fretboard Second....Don't remove an existing fretboard Third.....You get the Idea I won't bore you with the detail. Let's just say I needed to pull the router out to deepen the truss rod channel...
You would not believe the amount of times I changed my plans during my first build because of tolerances, mistakes, voodoo. Just keep at it, you seem to have the mind to work through any issues, that's half the fun of doing this.:)
Well, it had to happen eventually, I fucked up, and not in a good way. Somehow I managed to snap the fretboard off right behind the 21st (last) fret on my dad's guitar........... Now some people would find this extremely frustrating, but I saw it as an opportunity for an upgrade. I headed...
Well, 25% is better than nothing I suppose. All know is that when I was learning how to play, just being able to belt out some fast notes on the low e wasn't good enough to warrant any kind of praise. Don't get me wrong here, I like all kinds of music. But some people write good songs...
While I'll agree with you on the thinking outside the box theory, I also understand somewhat the other side of the argument. I have been playing for 20 years, and It honestly pisses me off when I hear someone ask "how do I get the brutal Djent's on the 8 string?" Maybe it's because my...
Small update, finished sanding the body with 120, mounted up the hardware to see what it looks like installed. I like it. Tomorrow I'll finish sanding the body to 220 and that's finished. Ready for shellac. The stain on the neck doesn't hold up to sanding so it obviously isn't penetrating...
Did a quick mockup of a 27" scale Xiphos. I increased the size equally by a 1/4" in each direction, not a lot of real estate left for the bridge, and I'm not to sure about how comfortable it would be. This will be my next build for sure, got some wood lying around that would be perfect for a...
