To EMG or NOT to EMG...

Seriously mate, it fecking is like you are reading my mind. "Uncompressed, wide open, breathing tone" with grinding, open mids and low-mid thump is all I am after. My seven-string ESP is like your guitar, super resonant, massive low end, but no low mids and not much mids at all. I once played an...

To EMG or NOT to EMG...

Jeez man, it's like you've read my mind... This is exactly what I am looking for, but having tried 3 sets of passive pups in this guitar (SD Pegasus, SD SH6, BKP Holy Diver), I am worried that passives may not make enough difference to compensate for the tonal qualities (or lack thereof, lol) of...

To EMG or NOT to EMG...

Yes, direct mounts. I actually have a set (with pots etc.) lying around that I was lucky to get for like 1/3 of retail price, so trying them out will only involve installation cost. HOWEVER, if the lutheir wil need to route the cavities, it ay affect the overall value of that guitar, which is...

    Pickup Recommendations from Black Winter

I have one. I second that. It's a high-mids quack, but it does. It also gets worse if I add too much volume on my Buxom Boost.

To EMG or NOT to EMG...

I don't necessarily want tightness in the modern metal sense, as I mostly play doom or death/doom metal, but I do want my guitar to have MIDS as well as frequencies other than overpowering bass. :) I will do research on that RPC thing, thanks

To EMG or NOT to EMG...

What standard ones? You either have the soapbar or the "regular" casing (which I have). I am talking about EMG 57-7 H model.

To EMG or NOT to EMG...

Lol, I appreciate it, but do you think that will solve my problem?

To EMG or NOT to EMG...

No, the old pickups are still in. Visually they look like they might almost fit, but a mate who dabbles in luthiery says the sharp edges of the casings won't fit without a bit of cavity adjustment. I believe him.

To EMG or NOT to EMG...

Not soapbar, the "regular" size casings. They have sharp edges while the cavities have round edges.

To EMG or NOT to EMG...

Ok, a while back I posted this thread. In a nutshell: - my ESP EII Eclipse 7 ET is very resonant, but super dark/bass-heavywih no low mids. - I tried a number of passive pickups, they made SOME, but honestly, not much difference. - the Seymour Duncan Distortion pickup I have in the bridge right...

Bridge pickup for a very, VERY dark-sounding ESP EII 7 Evertune guitar

yes, I do love it - what kind of nut would brighten it up? haha then you know my pain. Will keep my eyes peeled for the TA set! Thanks! I must agree here... - no 7 version exists, but his is a very different guitar, so even if I *could* get the samepickups I don't think it would work... - the...

Bridge pickup for a very, VERY dark-sounding ESP EII 7 Evertune guitar

What you're saying unfortunately reflects my own experience with other dark guitars I once owned, the C7 Blackjack and the C7 Hellraiser... Not much diference after swapping the pickups - definitely less than e.g. playing through a different cab. I have EMGs (81/85) in my six stringer, and it...

Bridge pickup for a very, VERY dark-sounding ESP EII 7 Evertune guitar

Well, I wish I could answer the third question - I honestly have no idea, I'm starting to think pickups barely affect the sound a guitar has, since every time I replaced pickups in any guitar I have had in my life, changes were rather cosmetic... Despite having the Les-paul shape, being rather...

Bridge pickup for a very, VERY dark-sounding ESP EII 7 Evertune guitar

Yes, I had a C7 Hellraiser (super, super bass-heavy, very dark) and a C7 Blackjack (less dark, but still pretty dark, very "round" and with no real cut in the mids at all. The first one was kinda fixed by a BKP Painkiller, the second I put Blackouts in, but still sounded too dark on my Mesa...

Bridge pickup for a very, VERY dark-sounding ESP EII 7 Evertune guitar

The Painkiller MIGHT be a good idea. Years ago I had a very dark-sounding 7-string Schecter C7 and putting in the PK really helped, but it didn't add that lower-mid grind, just lots of upper mids/ highs. Still better than what I have now. The Holy Diver is said to be essentially like a better...

Bridge pickup for a very, VERY dark-sounding ESP EII 7 Evertune guitar

A couple of months ago after much debating with Tim and Ben of Bare Knuckle Pickups, I purchased a 7-string set of Emerald (N) and Holy Diver (B) to replace the SD Sentient/Pegasus set in my ESP EII 7 Evertune guitar (https://www.espguitars.com/products/20990-e-ii-eclipse-7-evertune). My...

    Evertune keeps breaking string instantly

What exactly do you mean by this? I'm worried this might have already happened... I'm using a 10 for E in standard tuning, so perfectly normal. Thank you, this is helpful, will try it once I get more E strings, lol...

    Evertune keeps breaking string instantly

I have exactly the same problem.. it's my second time changing strings, I first went from stock to 11s no problem and now I've gone to 10s. I have set up all the strings no problem, good intonation, bending, etc. except for the thinnest E string which Keep snapping at the tuner. I have now...

    Midi keyboard

Apologies for a late reply and thank you for your comprehensive answer - I only wish I could understand all that stuff! :) I have NEVER used MIDI for anything apart from controlling my amp through my HX Effects. Like I said, I do not play the keyboards either. All I need a MIDI keyboard for is...
