I mostly use DR strings but the Ken Smith strings are pretty sweet as well. Ken Smith makes a .145 that works very well for G#. I'm actually looking to sell my 5 string thumb neck through to get a 6 and tune it G#,B, E, A, D, G. Odd interval I know but I tried low f# with several strings and the...
personally in the 500 dollar range, resale value is pretty pointless. I like expensive basses for the most part but for 500 I'd get a ESP B5e if you can find one.
yeah I really like the concept of the double neck also I've been wanting one for a while. I just haven't found one that either wasn't extremely cheap or really stupid expensive. Plus a lot of the designs seem to be off from what I would consider logical. I personally would want the fretless on...
Why not just get a sans amp RBI? It does the all tube SVT sound very well IMO. Almost all of the bassist I see in touring rock and metal bands use Sans amps. I switched to the RBI after I had to get new tubes and my amp sounded completely different with the new tubes.
We opened for Taproot this past Wednesday and Phils new Newsong single cut basses sounded amazing. Talked to him about it a little. He went with Nordstrand electronics(which always seems to help). Kinda reminded me a little of what the Halibut bass would look like as a single
I don't have a picture either because the setup order constantly evolves but here's what I have. I do try to stay away from keyboard synthy sounding FX. 1 Digitech whammy 4(used here and there, its pretty much always set to the one octave down preset and I don't use the rocker at all. I...
A local friend of mine has one. He doesn't use the pre amp in it. HE uses a sans amp RBI for the pre but he powers an 810 with the impulse so a 610 it should sound even better with the extra headroom. If its a mesa cab I'd definitely go for at least the cab. They make good cabinets...
I highly recommend just about all the Warwick neck through basses if you have the cash but you might not be happy with the spacing. Stingrays are great too and bit cheaper. Conklin gt-5 is actually a great deal in my opinion. But the ESP ltd deluxe basses are probably the best for the money...
I've done it before with an old project. I just tuned to C standard (not drop C) with a light set of strings, A .120 or .125 5 string set will work with a proper setup
guitar cabs work cool to thicken higher stuff (like jazz type solos above the 12th fret) but even an open E with any decent kind of volume can shred most low watt guitar speakers pretty quickly. If you get something with 100 Watt speakers you might be ok with a low powered amp (under 300 watts)...
for really low tunings the tech 21 sans amp RBI pre amp is my favorite. Its only 300 bucks and its great. I have Warwick thumb neck through 5 that sells on Musicians friend now for like 4,500 (I didn't pay that much) and I run it into a BBE sonic stomp into this simple 300 dollar pre amp. I...
I've been playing for about 20 years. My preference is active for fretted, passive for fretless however considering what you said there is a local bass player here that gets a great thick tone for rock and metal using passives. But there's a trick to it. HE has a MIM jazz bass with the high...
my preference for metal is the Tech 21 RBI pre amp. They are only like 300 new and they are great to get a really deep punchy tone. Suicide Silences bass tracks were recorded with a 500 dollar ESP and this 300 dollar pre amp and it sounded pretty decent. Its cheap and good. It gets even better...
????? I restring mine about once a month as long as the bands busy with shows. if we take a break to write sometimes a little longer than that. Bass strings sound like poo after about 3 months IMO. Most national bands I've opened for change there's once a week. Really big bands sometimes every...
