    Pickup Percussive Tone

Yea pick is often overlooked here. Look at something like the Dunlop Ultex, really aggressive attack to them.

Help me pick a new audio interface.

Been debating one of these guys for an interface upgrade, but haven’t heard too much feedback from out in the wild. On paper sounds kick ass for high quality with minimal I/O needs. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Revolution2x2--black-lion-audio-revolution-2x2-2x2-usb-audio-interface

    Wetness vs monitors

Definitely seems like a combination of frequency response of different speakers and listening environment, as have been discussed. You could try to isolate it by identifying where the reverb primarily lives in your mix to find what’s not translating. Also potentially a factor is that things...

    New mix, how'd I do?

Hey thanks for listening and for the feedback. I agree on the snare, it’s one thing I’ve been wrestling with. There’s parallel comp and saturation on it but I think I might try a bit of clipping to just lop off the transient a little bit and bring the rest of it up before it goes into the main...

    New mix, how'd I do?

Thanks! Yea, I’ve been debating a solo but I just hate writing them. Gotta get my chops back in order

    New mix, how'd I do?

Hey all, just re-recorded a song I wrote probably 4 years ago. Let me know what you think. GGD Invasion again on this one. Guitars are my Carvin DC7X -> EVH 50w 6L6 -> Torpedo Captor using GGD Zilla Cabs in Reaper. Bass my Schecter Stiletto 5, Radial DI, and using Neural Darkglass plugins...

    The Strings thread

If I could get them in custom sets for a reasonable price, I would use D’addario NYXL forever. But StringJoy has been good as well and I can get exactly what I want for guitar and bass.

Savage drive and EVH 50 stealth

Yea that doesn’t sound right at all. I know there are some tweaks to the stealth but I would be highly suspect that it’s purely that combo. Running everything at the correct voltage?

Savage drive and EVH 50 stealth

How does it sound with the drive almost off, volume at 11 o clock, tight around 9 o clock, and bite to taste in the middle? I usually run mine like this into an EVH 50w and it sounds great. I would never run the Savage with volume on full like a Maxon OD808 or TS9... the Savage has like twice...

    Mixing & Songwriting Feedback

Hey, thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. It's not a bass as the main - the rhythm guitars are an extended scale 7 string tuned to drop G#. I can definitely understand the comments about the mids on them - the guitars ended up honkier than I would have liked, and I didn't capture...

    Mixing & Songwriting Feedback

Thanks man! Yea I would agree on the snare, I’m still getting used to Invasion I think - it’s very tight and the rooms are a bit more subtle. Guitars are my Carvin DC7X w/ Duncan Nazgul/Sentient, into my EVH 5150 III 50w 6L6 on Red channel boosted with an Airis Savage Drive, into a Two Notes...

    Mixing & Songwriting Feedback

Oh yea, love Reaper - started using it because it's cheap and never had any reason to stop. The stock plugins may be the worst looking plugins ever, but they get the job done just fine - I use ReaEQ on damn near everything. I'll eventually spring for the FabFilter stuff but just hasn't been...

    Mixing & Songwriting Feedback

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback. That’s actually GGD Invasion with the Black Beauty snare and the Yamaha Recording Custom kick. Didn’t use any of their “turbo” processing- lots of ReaEQ, GGD Smash & Grab, Waves SSL E Channel EQ, and Slate VCC for saturation.

    Mixing & Songwriting Feedback

Been working on several aspects of mixing and songwriting, curious to get some additional opinions. Cheers!

Mesa Recto with over-sized 4x12: experiences?

If you like the unboosted sound/feel but still find it flubby, throw an EQ before the amp and pull some lows out. It’s the pre gain low end that gives you flub. Don’t need a load of distorted lows. You’d be surprised how much you can add back on the amp if you haven’t tried it.

    Neural DSP: Powered By Omega

Quick side question: Any preference between the Suhr & Fractal load boxes? Bought a Captor when they came out but thinking I should give one of those a shot. Appreciate the details btw, all the Neural stuff I’ve tried & heard sounds fantastic.

Any experience with a TC Sentry on an EVH 5150 III 50 Watt?

Yea for sure, do what suits your situation. I’m mostly recording so I will often just have the gate off for sections that need that, but you could put those after the Sentry output if that works better for you.

Any experience with a TC Sentry on an EVH 5150 III 50 Watt?

This is my exact setup, actually. The Sentry is decent, but you gotta set it up right. I have my pedals and the amps preamp in the loop of the Sentry so that everything gets gated. This would be: Guitar -> Tuner -> Sentry Input. Sentry send -> pedals that go before the amp -> amp input. Amp fx...

    Preferred way to program drums?

I use the piano roll in Reaper but I’ve been considering getting a midi pad that can do velocities so that I can rough them out by playing a couple passes and just nudge them into place. Not sure if it would be all that much faster though. Best bet on the piano roll is to work in sections...

    SD Black Winter Worship thread

That's awesome, thanks for the clip! Honestly the low end doesn't sound much different than the Nazgul in my EVH 50w, it's got that "kick you in the chest" thing going on on the low palm mutes. I definitely think the mid profile would be better suited to my needs though.
