I switched to Stringjoy over a year ago, great strings, made the next state over from me, seem like decent people, and they do custom sets.
Then there's Kalium, The String Source, and Cleartone who also make strings and offer custom sets. And in the UK there's Winspear Instrumental and Newtone...
waiting for stuff to dry eats up the most time, be it glue or paint/stain/dye/clear
although the reason a waitlist grows is new orders outpace build speed, even if it took a guy 3 days to get a guitar built from start to finish if he gets even 1 order in those 3 days he's now backlogged, so if...
Tension is a matter of preference. You have to know what you like in order to order what you need. If you have no clue, just use the current string gauges as a reference. If you want it looser, go with thinner gauges. Need more tension, grab thicker gauges.
I'm not one to have an ear for specifics on things like mid-range or low end response but I can say the thing purrs and growls in a very mean way. Really impressed with how it handles F#1 Std and Drop E1.
a few of the Variax models are piezo only but have all that added modeling along with it
and if we're including nylons like the Ibanez SC500N then that's where the TOD10N comes into the picture, and competes with Godin's Multiac
Scale length is only one part of the equation, and pretty miniscule compared to everything else in regards to tone.
Also, I own guitars from 22.2" to 30.2" . There's no reason to "choose" one.
The input dial on your interface should really not be touched at all for any instrument. Most recently NeuralDSP advised just leaving that dial at zero. They calibrated all their plugins to expect 0dB of gain added by the interface. For Scarletts and some UAD interfaces, just leaving it all the...
Tension has always hinged on 3 things: scale length, pitch/tuning, and string gauge thickness. If you change one of those things, and you can fudge the others to maintain the same tension.
That's why on the same instrument with a straight scale length will have a thin string for higher notes...
yeah easiest path would be adding a powered sub that has a "thru" so you can run audio from interface to the sub and then forward that signal on to your studio monitors, and the sub should have some kind of low pass or crossover so it's not playing anything but low freq content
I'm at the other...
NAM is free, shoulda started with that if you're looking to experiment with captures
but if you're already somewhat invested into the ToneX platform then check out the paid captures from Amalgam Audio, they get lots of praise for their stuff
Tension is up to the player, so it doesn't matter what numbers anyone gives you unless you have the exact same preference for tension. Some people like 15 lbs, some people are closer to 25 lbs for that low string.
I will keep it short by saying you can find out what tension you like on your...
