I don't play the bass, but our bassist does. Here's Luke Booth playing Ten off our upcoming EP. That's a Fender V 24 fret through a Helix using a Nolly patch into a Saffire Pro 40. No added EQ or compression, just slapped onto a master of the song with the original bass track deleted for your...
After a 4 year absence, I have rejoined the Kemper fold. During that period, I went through a Single Rec, a Carvin V3, Peavey 5150 I, II, and III and a metric tonne of pedals. My final rig with the 5153 50W was darn near perfect, but the limitations of a pedal board finally got to me, so I sold...
Skouija: It's a really thin satin. You can't feel any woodgrain, but you can't really feel the finish either.
NickS: If you're ever up in Vancouver, drop me a line. The worst thing about Carvin/Kiesel is that you never really get the opportunity to try one before you pull the trigger.
Sweet baby Jesus, all nestled in his manger, knows I love buying, selling, and trading guitars as much or possibly even more than actually playing guitars. Fortunately, Mrs. Sage is moderately supportive of these efforts.
Last month, I totally lost it. After a few happy years of playing PRS...
So, I strung her up with a 12-60 set and tuned it to drop B. It was right before jam, so I didn't swap out the pickups. Kinda glad I didn't, the Quantum pickups are pretty bitchin' with lots of clarity and a really nice mid presence. They're ever so slightly less hot than the Black Hawks, but in...
Just bought the RGR621XEBC today. Gonna slap some BKP Blackhawks in it and set it up tomorrow. Will report back. On specs alone, it's ace. I've been tickling it at the shop for the last 2 months, trying not to buy it. I caved today.
I've owned both and loved both. The feature set of the 5153 suits my rig layout better. I get compliments on my tone all the time when we play live. Soundguys tell me it's a very easy tone to work with. Other guitarists peep my board, thinking that the magic is somewhere in the pedals, but those...
Haha. I used to, but it also got ridiculous. I had a Black Pearl 30 combo, but then I wanted another 1x12 cab to run with it, then my pedalboard got nuts trying to find a drive sound I liked with it... Now, I have a 5153 50W and I'm thinking about grabbing a 1x12 or 2x12 for smaller gigs or...
I did the parallel to serial mod on my Single Rec. Took 15 minutes from start to finish and worked the first time. I could still hear just a tiny bit of bleed, though, and it eventually drove me to sell the amp. I went through 7-8 different rigs after that before landing on the 5153 50 watt. The...
+1 on matching ohms and using a speaker cable and not an instrument cable. That setup should be absolutely bangin'. A 5150 variant through V30s, hard to go wrong. (I'm biased, I run a 5153 with a Mesa cab).
This is all super. Thanks so much for weighing in. I'm still not entirely sure which direction I'm gonna head in, but I will post an NGD when it goes down!
Thanks for the input. I've considered the Mushok. Also thought about Ibanez's RGD line as they feature a 26.5" scale, which would likely be more appropriate than 27.7" for what we do. Overall, though, I'm kinda hellbent for leather on the whole multi-scale thing. I'm a bit disappointed that you...
Holy crap, it's been ages since I posted.
For the last 3 years, I've been pretty static on the old guitar front after having tickled more than 20 in the 4 years prior to that. I've been using a pair of PRS SE Toreros and they've been darn near everything I ever wanted: neck through, ebony...
We just released our EP. It's pretty heavy. In the vein of Dillinger, Architects, Misery Signals, but maybe weirder. http://thewaninglight.bandcamp.com - Free download.
If you're looking at being in a live band, I'd probably stay away from the Mark V:25. I tried the 4 EL84 amp route and found myself lacking clean headroom.
I'm biased as I own and love a 5150III 50 watt and have only tried the Archon briefly, but I get an awful lot of joy out of my amp. I find...
I modded my DSL 100 to run KT88s and ran that with just two tubes. Sounded decent. Got farty when I started tuning down. I got bored of messing with it and eventually offloaded it, but it was my main amp for over a decade.
I'd consider popping KT77s in it. I love those tubes in EL34 amps.
