When you guys install the d activator, other than the extra room left over, do they slot right in as usual or do you have to mod them to stay in?

Does changing the preamp tubes require biasing? Because there's an intermittent crackling every now and then. From what I've read this could be due to the preamp tubes? Lastly, what would changing the pre amp tubes from the Ecc83's to 12ax7's? Is it possible?

Well, the Bad Monkey came today, and oh my god. The difference is absolutely outstanding. The low end went from flubby to extremely defined, the mids almost seemed, tamed. And tone? The MA went from a mis-judged amp that needed TLC to get where it wanted to be, to an incredibe, full bodied tone...

I agree whole-heartedly! Now that i've got a (pretty much, touch wood!) flawless one, i can truly see what all the fuss is about with regards to these guitars now. My only regret is not getting one originally in white. And maybe i'm weird, but i kinda like the black headstock against the white...

Is there supposed to be a creamy/whitey look to the nut/rod end? Honestly looks like there is glue or something in there. I tried to adjust it again then and took a torch to the hole and I get the feeling it isn't suppose to look like that?

I'm gonna take it in tomorrow and see if they can get it moving. If not, I'm giving up on these bloody RG8's and I'm just gonna grab another 6 in the shop :(
