I prefer higher tension in general, 11-56 in D Standard/Drop-C has been perfectly fine for me across 25" SEs/S2s/Cores. Have gotten a Core Custom 22 down to Drop G with 14-68s, SE277 to the same tuning with 12s. Don't think the .5 inch between a PRS and a superstrat makes that much of a...
They seem to have re-badged the SE Custom 24s with fretboard/headstock binding and quilt tops the SE Custom 24 Quilt and are putting out an SE CE24 as well, according to FB/PRS forums. Looks like CE24 and the Swamp Ash Special have the Silver Sky neck heel.
Brief & Accurate Description of gear/guitar: Custom 24-08 from 2018 (pre-nitro/3-way toggle) in a one-off charcoal metallic finish. Well taken care of overall, has not been gigged. Wear includes scratching on the rear lower horn, a tool mark at the 16th fret, and some patina on the bridge. See...
Just wanted to plug these guys - love everything that's happening in the metallic hardcore/early metalcore revival scene right now. I feel like I hear a bit of earlier Veil of Maya in their style too.
Holy Hell was great, but always kinda assumed that album was the last vestiges of what Tom had written aided by Josh's perspective/input. Haven't really enjoyed their more recent two albums, but glad that this seems to have raised the profile of Sylosis and excited to see what Josh does next.
Love this amp. I run one of the MkI combos with my FM3 in 4CM and it rips with the Precision Drive model tightening it up too - full 5150 mode at that point.
He mentioned the Alnico 8 in the new bridge pickup - had a SD Alternative 8 in my SE Custom 24 for years and became a big fan. High output without some of the harshness of ceramic pickups. I loved the A/O set when I briefly owned a Holcomb SE. Would like the SE locking tuners at the new price...
Looks really cool, not sure about the longevity of these PRS satin finishes though. I'm not a gigging musician but have seen finish come off between the pickups on the Floyd sigs - tough sell at $2700.
Thanks for the advice guys, glad you enjoyed it! Ended up turning the guitars down a bit. The speed/differing parts on that "verse" riff definitely led to some timing differences between both parts on final recording but ended up leaving it as is as I felt if kind of had that Black Dahlia...
Have been trying to push myself to write a bit more as of late and have felt fairly happy with how things sound in my mixes.
I do notice that I tend to get my guitars a bit "hairy" in the top end for the sake of presence and am hoping to keep that character while also getting to that more...
Spiro Dussias on Instagram has had me gassing for a Horizon-I, and I've had my Custom 24-08 set up as an HS guitar since I bought it - I just don't find myself using a neck HB for anything much anymore.
I've reached out to see what a HS Private Stock Custom 24 would cost... still waiting to...
Late 20s. In middle school went from emo and radio metal (Disturbed, etc.) to Children of Bodom, In Flames, metalcore, etc. The E standard/Phrygian/blues thrash stuff never really appealed to me early on, though I thought The Day that Never Comes was a cool track.
Honestly, still haven't ever...
