One of my FM3 problems is fixed - The power switch broke off. Fractal let me know where to get a replacement part. Managed to fix it at home. Looks like new. Only weird thing is that the direction of the switch is reversed from what it used to be.
I've got one of the cheaper Rode pencil condenser mics on a stand next to my desk, and I've used it for online games a couple of times. It was never a problem without headphones. It might be worth just jamming whatever mic you already have on a stand and trying it anyway. Maybe it's fine...
I kinda wish the 700 and 170 had the same lights as the 200, because they don't tell you anything about your staging, and the manual is so light on info. I assume OC is overcurrent. But the 200 has an input and output clipping light. With the 200, I can set the FM3 to Line -10, crank the...
Kind of tangential, but I've been wondering about the effect of the availability of wattage - I'm not sure how to phrase this, but picture it this way:
I've been using a PowerStage 200 for a while. It's 200w (at that 0.05 THD, etc etc), and plenty loud. The "usable" part of the volume knob is...
The farther we go into the always-online, subscription-based, live-service future, the actual hardware and generational lines become less and less relevant. I think both teams (Sony and MS) view the consoles less as distinct systems now, and more as delivery platforms - the product is not the...
Whenever I see those kinds of comparisons, I can't help but think that when your population is 10x ours, and divided and administrated in a completely different (and I think more complicated) way, that has to have a major impact on how the spending has to work, making any 1-to-1 numbers...
Maybe if I just chuck the whole thing in the oven, it'll melt the switch shut, re-flow the usb chip, and do the FW 8 beta update for me.
Support got back to me and recommended I take it to a local shop to fix it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I've use the noise cancelling on the Sony buds, and while it doesn't literally cancel everything, they certainly isolate enough to put some quiet music on and focus in a group of people. I use them if I'm out at a cafe and trying to read or something.
I've emailed the fractal support to try to get a price and turnaround time to get things fixed, but if that answer ends up being awful, it's tempting to just melt the plastic together with an old soldering iron or something, weld the plastic shut and be done with it. It's janky, but at this...
I've also got the Sony XM5s, and they've been metal friendly, as far as I'd care, after setting the eq in the companion app to brighten things up a bit.
The little pivot parts are too small, so I think the best I could do is glue it permanently on and just plug/unplug it all the time. Which would be lame, but I guess it would work.
I'd have to swap the whole power jack thingie out, I think. It's all one unit. The switch itself is a rocker that seems to push down on some metal contacts (that are now just loose with no switch to hold them down). The plastic pivots for the rocker switch snapped off, I guess. This is the...
Well, my day just went from bad to worse: been stressed with the family/lawyer stuff, had some stresses at work, etc., so I sat down to relax with a guitar, and the fucking power switch broke off my FM3. Now it's just an expensive brick. Fuck.
In the ongoing family drama saga: I got yelled at a year ago for offering to help pay for a lawyer, because we needed one at the time. Was told to butt out, it would be handled. Fast forward to this month, and I learn it has not, in fact, been handled, and I have to pay for it anyway. I'm...
I may be biased as a bassist who is cursed to having to deal with blown speakers. Point being, the speakers will protest before they die, so it should not be a shock to anyone.
This is, IMO, the only answer that matters here. All the hypothetical scenarios of some kind of harm assume that you're pushing the limits of one of the pieces of gear. If you overshoot what you need on both sides of the equation, then it doesn't matter. If you've undershot your needs, the...
