Why don’t we see much about Multiband distortion for ERGs?

Honestly I think they all sound too synthy, and while I agree it can be a cool thing to do, it changes the timbre of the guitar enough to sound off. But a mix can really be different. However distortion is essentially harmonics and compression, with less harmonics and compression on the low...

Finding a guitar with the right construction - questions

I personally tend to buy mostly bolt on guitars. Why? I can’t really say other than I never had owned a neck through or set neck that I liked. Except for a Parker fly. For me it’s all neck profile. I like thin, like as thin as you get. So 90% of set necks are out. I only owned one neck...

Ibanez Tim Henson TOD10 rerurn or not

First depending on where you are, you over payed. Second all of that stuff isn’t super super major but I’d ask for money off because that should have been at best B stocked. If you like the way the guitar plays and looks still worth a keep. I have guitars I’ve bought with a few dings, but with...

    Is EMG808 to 808X a direct swap?

Got it, if it was 18v it would sound even thinner in the x. But honestly I’d just try increasing the gain to see if you like it. That being said what were you hoping to get out of the x? It’s not radically different, but essentially it just reduces compression and adds headroom both of which...

    Is EMG808 to 808X a direct swap?

Do you have 18v or 9v on the guitar? the x preamp has a higher headroom on it so they don’t compress as much and give you more dynamics. And low end compresses faster and harder than treble frequencies. Meaning that you might need to increase the gain on your amp to compensate. However you...

ernie ball music man vs jackson

You really want to try them out to see, but if you don’t have any Jacksons around try the pro line. It’s a reasonable approximation to the higher end instruments in feel. That being said I’ve never played a bad music man. After being setup to taste nothing really plays better in my opinion. I...

    Ibanez Genesis/Prestige Paint Quality?

Had a 550dy genesis for about 5 years. Went through a couple moves and played out a bit. No flakes or damage. YMMV

    Pot values for rail singles?

Typically I’d still suggest 250k. Even being a humbucker they’re still really bright.

How good is an Evertune actually?

Yeah haha that would be super fine! I’m so used to talking to people who want to use the thinnest strings possible for everything. Namely I only talk to myself!

How good is an Evertune actually?

The answer is yes… maybe. Depends on how thin you want the strings. Most of the saddles can only accommodate for a standard range of tension. So if you’re say using a 9 for drop c, that shouldn’t be an issue. Using 8s for drop A probably not.

Seymour Duncan Hot Rails or BG1400 for a 6 string telecaster?

Right I forgot they made a new line for the ultra series. I’d say hot rails or super distortion if you want something more mid focused. Hot stack or gen 3 noiseless if you want a wider range of eq. Also if you want something really versatile check out the cobra T that’s super cool as well.

Seymour Duncan Hot Rails or BG1400 for a 6 string telecaster?

What don’t you currently like about the noiseless that you want to upgrade? Per spec the gen 3 noiseless fenders are almost as hot as the piledrivers by bare knuckle. Between the two I find the hot stack is like super tele, kinda getting closer to a p90 but still with some twang. I haven’t...

    I think Strandbergs suck

As having owned three and sold them for years I can say it kinda depends on the setup for sure. I’ve seen some horror stories in the qc department, but then everyone I’ve personally got my hands on played all really well. So ymmv. For sustain, I do believe it’s a bit less than other guitars...

Switch & Pots Advice Needed - For Passive & Active Pickups

I believe when they say American guitars they’re mostly talking about the tips as that’s the main thing that doesn’t transfer. Unless the guitar has a VERY special screw set for the selector. So you should be good there. for log or Lin, it’s kinda up to you. Log is more typical if you like to...

How good is an Evertune actually?

I just want to clarify for not spreading false information. The manual gives three different versions of setups for bending. Fast bends which yes feels like a normal guitar, but if you’re down tuning or playing hard you will lose the intonation and tuning stability in this mode. To counter...

How good is an Evertune actually?

I should put the caveat that bending feels weird at first, but similar to when you first learn to bend. There’s just a little uptick before the bend happens but after playing on one it does become second nature. Of course it also depends on how you set it up to bend because you do have some...

How good is an Evertune actually?

I would completely disagree. Specifically speaking the evertune keeps tuning by maintaining specific tension on the string. So that means micro changes in the string itself cannot really effect the tuning as if the evertune is in position two it will always keep the same tension ie same tuning...
