.054 is good for me down to drop A no problem. Even another half step down to G# is doable in a pinch. Tensions this low might require a change of technique if you have a heavy touch.
I'll bet you this guy (who is amazing) would buy that modded Schecter hellraiser lapsteel "Sleepwalk" @SlackKeyShow Bobby Ingano Hawaiian Lap Steel Guitar Master - YouTube Here's an RG 7420 ... he says 7421 but I know the diff (read description. ugh ohh)...
One of the greatest pieces of music ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wFoSbjXB68 Jason Becker still pretty much peerless. One of the best to ever lay hands on a guitar.
Pseudo Sweeps... You can hear 2 to 3 notes max in the sweep and the rest is mess. The notes that are intelligible aren't even in order per say. You may hear the top note and bottom note and the rest is noise. No offense to the guy but you need to play the sweep clean and at a speed where the...
27" is great for a Baritone Six as well. I had an RG470XL 27" Scale 6 String. Detuning and selecting the right strings can give great lows and extremely comfy tensions on the high side. I never miss the upper range that is sacrificed when playing detuned sixes. The high strings still seem...
Here's the guy from the op pic showing off his wares a couple of years ago. The first few notes sounded musical but... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y403EftEYdg
If you plan to do expressive bending and vibrato on your leads you may want to keep the scale length on the short side. However, If you are going to use it more for crushing riffs and speedy rhythms the longer scales will offer up the goods with less string gauge needed to get the job done.
I hear the clipping in the clean section near the end. I'm curious where the clipping was happening. The Axe FX II preamp, amp sim, or DAW software? As far as gain sounds, I found the section 0:14-0:22 most impressive to my ears. I know that is with the pups that gave you fits but it sounds...
Thanks for setting me straight. I know the op already has his heart set on a new set of pups so its moot but perhaps lowering the pups might have brought the output down enough to his liking. edit: I just listened to the pup comparison. Holy crap that sounds good! I would love to know what the...
Thanks for all the thoughts guys. I've seen many artists (not necessarily metal ones) speak about their gear in terms of mojo. Guitars, amps, pedals, etc. Especially when discussing vintage gear.
By the way, my fav tuning is by far EAEADGBE. I can play all of my drop tuned creations in drop A along with a Standard E0 over Drop A elements added. I can't shred on these axes quite as well as I can on 25.5" scale but this new world is a dream world for me with Mojo fueling the creative juices.
Remember its a 470XL with 27" Scale not the regular RG470. These were the first baritone 6 guitars on the market I ever saw from a big time Mfg like Ibanez. Its serial number dated it 2001 made in the Fugi-Gen Plant.
