I'm listening to Megadeth's "Countdown to Extinction" on my proper stereo and it just made remember once again how anemic and thin the whole production is, especially the guitars.
That got me thinking about all the albums that are really good albums with good songs, but a disappointing...
Lately I haven't really found any time to practice during the day; new job and children keep me too busy, there's always something that needs to be done.
I do find that I usually have some time in the evening and I was wondering what people would recommend as a setup for practicing in the...
This is the first NGD for me in over 10 years!
For a long time I had wanted another guitar for different tunings, because I enjoy playing along to original song recordings and that usually requires exactly the same tuning as on the recording. I also wanted something that would give excellent...
Something arrived in the mail today! I haven’t heard it yet, but was wondering if there are any Powerwolf fans here on this board???
I really like their consistency in turning out great power metal records with great singing.
So there’s another thread, but it seems that started way early.
I haven’t bought any new music this year, I think, so I’m wondering what everybody would say is their album of the year?
To make it more meaningful, may I kindly suggest we limit ourselves to the one personal favorite only and...
I have a guitar that is always tuned to D standard and I want to play one single drop D song on it (Fallen Leaves from Billy Talent, which features multiple open strings).
Has anybody got any experience in using a capo for such a purpose (i.e. putting it on the lower five strings)? If yes...
I have a Gibson Voodoo Les Paul with the standard tune-o-matic bridge. I want to play it in D standard with 10-52 strings.
The low E (.52) and the G string (.17), tuned to D and F, don't intonate correctly. With the G-string this is - to me - quite audible on chords, on the E-string is not so...
I think there are a lot of hidden gem albums out there that people don't know about and really should.
Sometimes these are from bands that people dislike (and don't know that they have an album they'd might really enjoy), sometimes from bands that are completely unknown. Sometimes they are just...
Gibson destroyed hundreds of Firebird X guitars.
They say they were "unsalvageable" and "unsafe", so they couldn't be donated. Total bullshit if you ask me, they simply didn't want to give them away or sell them cheap. What a douchebag company...
Got it today, to my surprise no thread here on SSORG. Why no love?
Anyway, just started listening to it now... have been looking forward to it all week.
Dear fellow forumites,
I have a very old Laney AOR 2x12" cab from the 80s that I came across very cheap. It still needs a bit more TLC, but when I put a Celestion V30 and an Eminence V12 in it, it sounded massive. It also was very loud, given that the V30 and V12 are just very loud speakers.
I...
Here's something I've wondered about for a while.
I've recently started playing some really fast Kreator songs and due to the speed/technicality, I've wondered if it is true that some pickups track the low end faster?
For example, BKP Aftermaths, ceramic magnet pickups, are said to have an...
I've been playing around with different speakers and cabs at home lately. It seems that a 2x12" is too big/loud for home use, especially with wooden floors, and I will stick to a 1x12".
I have a semi-open Palmer 1x12", which is a rather neutral sounding cab.
Ideally I would like a speaker...
Hi,
I was wondering if people have had any experience with any of this stuff, as it is kind of hard to find information on the web:
Eminence Legend 12 EM - a speaker a bit like the EVM 12L. I found this video and the review on Bonedo, but not much else. Does anybody have one/tried one...
I'm looking for some of these quick connectors for speakers that are often used. I don't want to solder my speakers in, so I can swap them from time to time.
I found these spade crimp connectors on Amazon, but I don't know if these are the right ones...
I have an MXR Phase 90 EVH and an Earthquaker Devices Ghost Echo.
When I power them with my old, trusty Harley Benton Power Plant Junior there is no noise on the clean channel and, on the gain channel, a very slight oscillating noise when the MXR is on (but no playing)...
So, I've been wondering about this... these are the amps I played for a long time.
Marshall JCM900 - I set all the EQ to 10 and didn't look back.
Peavey 5150 - Here I had to set the EQ much more carefully, as the amp has a lot more low end.
Krank Rev Jr - Sounded best with the EQ just set to 10...
My G-string is a little sharp when fretted at 12th fret, I comparison to the harmonic. I can't move the saddler back any further, unfortunately, it is already all the way at the back. It is not a huge problem, but it still bothers me.
This particular G-string is a .018 string and it is tuned...
So I have EMG60/81x in my ESP Eclipse, but recently I've been feeling I want to change that and get something with more character, bite and harmonics, and good tracking when playing fast thrash metal songs. The EMGs, while giving great "Hifi" sounds, are a bit "dull" in character, a bit too...
