    Prpoer intonation possible when tuning to A on 25.5" scale?

    I had an Epi LP7 with that scale length that I tuned in drop-a with a 10-46 set and a 60 on the bottom. It worked great for me with a set of bright pickups and like troy has mentioned, not beating the hell out of your strings and playing with proper economy of motion and finesse.

    Might be a stupid question, but are you sure that when you mute the strings you aren't accidentally tapping either a fret or a pickup with a string?
