I *think I know what you're asking.
Yes the guitar itself and the way it resonates affects your end sound. Some just don't resonate well and/or have a limited frequency range. Rap on the guitar with your middle knuckle, if it gives you a relatively loud 'crack' that's a well resonating body, if...
Everything seems better now. Kick is there, Bass guitar is better sitting and has some sort of noticable articulation, Snare is not so loud (still a little rough perhaps but better) The guitars are better eq'd and the subtle compression did some good with keeping them punchy.
I left the kick...
Damn man. Much appreciated. I feel like I owe you a burger or something haha
I've been doing some tweaks, I think part of the issue I'm having in the bass is the tracking I did which was clean but maybe too dynamic for a bass part. On several parts I just mimed the main guitar line with a pick...
Further question, when you're doing a compression of a broad range of freqs dynamic ranges etc like doing a whole drumkit at once, how do you set your compression thresholds, attack, release etc accounting for all?
Thanks for the thorough listen. I had a feeling it was something like that. Lets say frequency wise, if you were stacking a distorted rhythm and arpeggiated lead like I did, what freq's would you give to one or the other?
I also find I have to scoop a lot of low mid out of my bass guitar tone...
I think on this one it's probably not a limiting/clipping thing so much, I left more headroom on this. I almost think it might be an eq'ing or a source thing with any/several of the instruments. There are arpeggiated distorted leads, distorted rhythm, bass guitar and drums, so I'm not sure but...
Hey all-
Been learning to mix/master to a presentable degree for my music projects.
This is a concept for a song I made last month
-
I think the mix sounds overall Okay/adaquate, but there's an 'upfront'ness it doesn't seem to have, the lows seem to be there but not very...
The best way to tell is the serial on the back. Email Mesa and they should tell you same day if its not late. The V30's had different sounds based on when they were made
Definitely, I play different on different *guitars honestly. With a 5150 I like trem picking, fast galloping and generally brutal rhythm. Marshalls I want to play more melodic but still chunky riffs, Rectos = rhythmic groovy syncopated stuff
I effectively did the 'Distortion Lite' in my Edwards LP, swapped a regular ceramic mag into the gold gibson height JB and I absolutely love the thing. It retains a good bit of clarity I'd say, still very midsy but not as potentially overpowering as the Distortion can be. Its easy to do by the way.
For the record, I have always hated Glenn Fricker and his weird overly excitable yet pushy demeanor, he gives dipshit non advice for 'clout and I could really do without him. *Fluff bugs the shit out of me too, maybe slightly less lol
For what its worth, you said optimised JB, the Jb is 16.6 K output (pretty hot) and the Nazgul is a good bit lower at 13.3K. I know DCR is not the full output picture at all, but I dont get the wholly out of control vibe out of the nazgul that *really hot pickups give. The invader for instance...
The Katana MKII is to me, the best amp in that pricepoint. Vyprs, Line 6, Blackstar etc etc are all more or less cheaply made, lightly built speaker boxes with crackly speakers and shit power sections. The Katana is genuinely giggable if you get the 100 watt or bigger, it has effects loops and...
Haven't read any of the other replies but based on your initial sound description, 'Vowely' midrange, tight lows for low b sounds like Nazgul to me. A less 'modern', more all around but similar vibe is the Distortion, which literally is a ceramic JB, which has all the JB mids but broader...
If the HZ you have is the H4, that actually will do a great Bodom tone in my opinion. Frankly my favorite tone is what they got off Are you dead yet which was the H4 boosted (think like a tubescreamer with the level at 9/10, no gain, which is something you should definitely try regardless). Run...
Hey, so a couple things from my experience as both a big Alexi guy and having tried to get a tone out of an older axe FX I fully loved
Start with just a bit less gain, when you double track and tightly you get the thickness with the cleanliness. A good bit the grindiness is literally the pick...
Hey all-
I've long been curious of finding plugins that can sense the notes being played and turn them into at least partial midi-
I've read a little today on them, I'm curious if anyone's gone into this functionality and what plugins were best at it?
I understand its an evolving technology...
The Steven Slate Mo-TT is an effective way to overhaul your tracks in a controlled way. I've spent about a year and a half focusing hard on mixing and I got to the point where my mixes were balanced and controlled but lacking the 'oomph' and 3Dness I was looking for. It's a multiband dynamics...
