Thanks for the suggestion - I'll take it on board. I only tracked the guitars and bass. In terms of the suggestion for compression, what is it about the vocals that are standing out to you (just so I know what to listen for)? I'll see if I can find what you are referring to regarding Joel...
For better perspective, here a two examples of the completed tune. From the same mix but a different reference for the master. https://soundcloud.com/intoruin/track6-tob https://soundcloud.com/intoruin/track6-ds cheers.
Revisiting the topic now that all tracking is done. I have had a go at mixing. So below I have 4 brief sections of one of the tunes - all slightly different. Would appreciate feedback on which is best and where to improve the best one. here's the links... https://soundcloud.com/intoruin/6c-tob...
Try exploring with your palm position relative to the bridge and find the sweet spot. I find moving up the bridge some way but also using a light touch helps. Also make sure that you are using the least amount of gain that you can handle and play hard. Aside from that, avoid flubbiness in your tone.
thanks for the reply. I don't mind the nitpickiness at all and appreciate you having a look and offering suggestions. Anything that helps me lift my game haha. I will play around with the drums after I finish work for the day.
Many thanks for the replies and encouragement. Yes, I received the vocals as is from the vocalist and he is aware of that prob after listening to the mix in his car stereo. When it comes time to do a final mix the vocals will be raw so that we can more tastefully play with effects in context...
Hi, I have just finished recording a tune with an old school death metal vibe. This is my first go at mixing and would like someone else to check it out and give some advice on where to improve. Here is a link to the tune: https://soundcloud.com/intoruin/citadel-of-lies Any help appreciated...
It is not my primary guitar at all and it is pretty cheap. I have no qualms experimenting with it. Not something I'd do with my other guitar haha. Again, I will make a better judgement when I can crank my amp at rehearsal. Here's a pic.
Hi Odibrom, I carved out a further 10mm into the body and moved the pickup forward. To be fair I probably need to test it through my amp when it's at rehearsal levels.
Thanks alot for the replies and for taking the time to measure your guitars up. It seems like there can be some variance depending on intonation etc. A friend of mine has a 7 string ibanez at 25.5". Yet his bridge pickup pole is 54mm (in tune and intonated)! Thanks again for the help. Alot to...
thanks for the reply. I am only curious because i have to guitars and there is a noticable difference in the fatness of the tone. The first is a 27" 7 string guitar with alder body maple neck ebony fingerboard, tune-o-matic bridge and seymour duncan nazgul in the bridge. The second is a 25.5"...
Hi, I have a 27" scale 7 string guitar and I have measured the distance (with the low B string) from the saddle to the center of the poles closest to the bridge at about 39mm (a little over 1 and 1/2 inches). I am curious as to what others might measure up to. Cheers
Thanks for the replies. In the end I decided to embrace the chaos and let the paint do as it will. Turns out there's only a little touchup up to do on the back. Here it is without the clear coat.
So I have just finished the artwork on the back of the guitar body and it looks awesome. However I the paint drips around the side (which is good) and underneath on the top of the body (which is very bad). I cleaned that mess up and reprimed and base coated the top of the body and am now...
Hi, >>"flow painting". I've done some of that myself. Very cool stuff. - yeah it is cool stuff for sure. >>I've finished a guitar with epoxy but, yes, it is difficult to get even coverage on a 3d surface. Lots of sanding involved. - Sounds like it's possible but alot of work. >>I like it...
