ernie ball music man vs jackson

I recently acquired a Jackson USA Select Soloist SL-1, and an EBMM Majesty (7 string). They’re both great, basically without fault. I play the Majesty way more. It has mojo, it shreds, and I really, really like the Dreamcatcher bridge pickup. It’s a light weight guitar, comfy and the neck is...

NGD/Review: Vola OZ RV TNC (Tiger Eye Gloss)

the top is like a subtly more classy "mellow" flame. the pick guard works here and i usually hate them. it's avant garde or mid-century modern somehow.

Evan Rubinson running Dean Guitars into the ground

well, TIL! i wonder if everyone knew the polarizing V headstock is actually playing authentic™, would there would be so much angst and mean words typed into guitar forums.

How long do you go before changing strings?

elixir for the win. i've gone up to 2 years on a set and only changed them because i got floyd bling to install. the new set sounded exactly the same. i always wash up the hands really good before picking up a guitar, and i never wipe it off after. elixirs have been the main reason i started...

    Korean vs Indonesian guitars QC

I just got a new EC-1000 on a sale, knowing it could either be Korea or Indo. I hoped for Korea, but alas… Indonesia. I’m not a snob though so have given it a shot. The fretwork and general fit and finish is totally fine. It plays great. No aesthetic flaws. BUT one of the pickup covers had...

Evan Rubinson running Dean Guitars into the ground

sounds like they’re gonna try something like the Solar business model. Small runs of variations of their mainstays, keep the USA shop open (provided the bank doesn’t repo all of their shit)

Children of Bodom/Bodom after Midnight Megathread (RIP Alexi)

Random “lesson” vid during the Jackson era: Nothing earth shattering but he’s breezing thru album material at like +25% tempo super clean. He was absolutely epic in his prime.

Mustaine left Dean and went to Gibson/Epiphone/Kramer

You are right. The “real” videos seemingly don’t have any audible guitar in them.

Mustaine left Dean and went to Gibson/Epiphone/Kramer

First time I’ve heard more than 5 seconds and it’s really not as bad as I thought it was. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a great performance. It’s just not embarrassingly bad. The orchestra got the room mic and Dave got the dry DI or something.

    NGD: EBMM JP15-7 Blood Orange

Where does EBMM get these necks??! FYI if you look at the plane where the “fretboard” would be - or the line where the binding would be placed on the neck, you’ll see that they saw the “fretboard” off of the neck to route in the truss slot, then glue the board back on in the same spot, trying...

NGS/Review: Ibanez Prestige RG5170G (Flat Silver)

Still looks off. Crack the screws loose, you don’t need to loosen the strings. Lay it face down on a towel on a carpeted floor and kneel over it with the body braced between your legs and the neck protruding out like a majestic codpiece. Use one hand to pull the neck in the direction of the...

Is this a real ESP E-II?

I think lower is better? Maybe it’s like this: Japan custom shop: ESP USA shop: ESP* (pronounced ESP asterisk) Japan factory built: E-II Edwards: E-2.5 (E two and a half) LTD: E-III (almost sounds cooler than E-II) Navigator: E-IP Infringement

Evan Rubinson running Dean Guitars into the ground

Merger with BC Rich. Ironbirds with V headstocks. MLs with Kahlers. Cadillacs with all of the abalone. Tribal coffin cases. Chain wallets in every case. Strippers in the NAMM booth. Discounted bail bond loyalty program customers in the Tampa area. This is big brain strategery. Evan will never...

DGZ new razorback (Dean Guitars Zelinsky? Dime GuitarZ?)

Heresy. The V neck is comfy! 24.75” scale and 22 nickel frets is way more controversial.

Is there such thing as a "conservative metal" band?

Back on conservative metal bands: Amon Amarth? Yeah it’s pagan, but it predates JC by a good bit. That’s the real old school traditional values.
