sam ash

I currently play a Ibanez RG6003FM and I am looking at my next purchase to be in the mid - high end guitar spectrum(1000$+). I was curious to know if there are any alternatives outside of Guitar Center and Sam Ash to be able to try out nicer guitars like an Ibanez Prestige, ESP E-II or Schecter...

There's one at the Sam Ash here, '97, Players condition, the gold has worn away on the Lo-Pro where one would palm-mute, and the Ebony board could use a little TLC, but it's a fine player, if the action is a tad high. Guy who sold it in took great care of it, but it's certainly been gigged, and...

...were apparently made as a 'custom run' in at least one model for a guitar store chain (probably Sam Ash or Guitar Center) but I can't find any references or pictures of any models anywhere. Anyone know what happened to them? And production models/numbers?
